Celebrity death hoaxes have increased

In recent years, the Internet has been filled with celebrity death hoaxes. It's unclear to rational minds why people would lie about someone's demise just to get clicks. This is one of the dark sides of the Internet, and the latest report comes from daytime actress Judith Chapman, who says of the rumor, "That's ‘So Strange' and Patently Horrible."

The false information was detailed and startled many fans as it claimed Chapman died at home from a heart attack, with no one around. A few months back, Beth Maitland, who plays Tracy Abbott on The Young and the Restless, posted online that rumors of her death were false.

Chapman is a soap vet

Soap fans know Chapman from playing Angelica Devereaux/Diana Cooper on Days of Our Lives and Gloria Bardwell on The Young and the Restless. She also portrayed Ginny Webber on General Hospital and Charlotte on Ryan's Hope. In 2014, she did a crossover episode as Gloria on The Bold and the Beautiful.

The actress is the latest soap vet to warn fans about fake news. Rumors of her death had been making the rounds on social media and she wants everyone to know she is alive and well.

Soap actors are not exempt

Chapman expressed her concern about the death rumors and advised fans to note the websites with the false allegations and not click on them any more. She acknowledged that fake news increasising across the Internet and she is not the only victim.

Scott Clifton who portrays Liam Spencer on The Bold and the Beautiful warned his followers not to respond to inbox messages allegedly from him that ask for money.

Know what to look for with spam accounts and posts

A good rule of thumb when you see a sensational headline is not to click on it. Check to see if reputable sites are reporting the news. When it comes to inbox messages from celebrities, please consider that the rich and famous would not be asking for money from their followers.

There are also fake accounts in Facebook groups with pictures of your favorite daytime actors. You can tell them because they all say the same thing. They ask you to click and comment, or say they bet they cannot get anyone to notice.

I became frustrated and commented on a post that was allegedly from Steve Burton, who portrays Jason Morgan on General Hospital. I wrote, "This is a fake account." Immediately, I received an inbox message that said "Hello dear how are you " and I did not respond.

Don't be fooled by fake news

Remember, don't respond to posts or inbox messages that appear to be from actors asking for money or begging you to engage with them. When you read a sensational headline about a favorite daytime actor, please don't click on it and give them another view.

Check to see if the story is being reported by sites you trust. If not, you should wait a bit and check again. If no one else is carrying the story it's probably fake.
