Soap stars can be unpredictable

One thing daytime fans know is that soap actors often make statements about their lives then later change their minds. Soap vets John Lindstrom and Cady McClain appear to have backtracked on some things they said just like Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell who gave interviews saying they would not return to Days of Our Lives.

Alfonso said she would "Never" return as Hope Brady and Reckel did not want anyone else portraying Bo Brady so his character died from a brain tumor. Both actors changed their minds and appeared on Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem 2 where Bo was brought back from the dead. They later made appearances on DOOL on Peacock. Soon they will be back as Bo and Hope for a new story arc.

Lindstrom and McClain join Beyond the Gates

John Lindstrom and Cady McClain have made decisions that seem to contradict what they previously said. The couple were married but separated and now have come full circle as soap vets and are working on a new project together. Soap Opera Digest reveals that Lindstrom and McClain have joined the cast of the new CBS soap Beyond the Gates.

The soap vets became engaged in 2012 and were married on Valentine's Day in 2014. In April of 2024, they announced they were separating because their careers were taking them in different directions.

Lindstrom, who will portray Joey Armstrong, is best known for playing twins Ryan Chamberlain and Kevin Collins on General Hospital since 1992. McClain who will play Pamela Curtis last played Jennifer Horton Devereaux on Days of Our Lives and gained fame as Dixie Cooney on All My Children.

Jon and Cady have worked together before

Both actors appeared on As The World Turns, where they portrayed Craig Montgomery and Rosanna Cabot who were a romantic couple. In 2022, during the COVID pandemic, Lindstrom appeared as a body double for Matthew Ashford (Jack Devereaux) on DOOL in a kissing scene with McClain (Jennifer).

Now that they are working together on Beyond the Gates, fans wonder if a reconciliation may happen in real time but the former couple has not addressed the issue.

Lindstrom will remain on General Hospital

General Hospital viewers should not be concerned about Jon Lindstrom leaving the ABC soap. He has worked on other projects for years and says he will still portray Kevin Collins.

Kevin's wife, Major Laura Collins (Genie Francis) has been dealing with a lot while he has been off-screen in recent months. A new criminal, Jens Sidwell (Carlo Rota) is in Port Charles, and three patients at General Hospital have been murdered.

Some reports indicated that Beyond the Gates was changed to The Gates but that appears not to be correct. The new soap premieres on CBS on Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. after The Bold and the Beautiful. This conflicts with General Hospital which airs on CBS at the same time.

Fans who desire can enjoy both soaps

Jon Lindstrom will not be the first actor to appear on two daytime drams. Tristen Rogers portrayed Robert Scorpio on GH and Colin Atkinson on The Young and the Restless. Wally Kurth does double duty on Days of Our Lives as Justin Kiriakis and on General Hospital as Ned Quartermaine.

Although Beyond the Gates and General Hospital will air at the same time BTG can be streamed on Peacock and GH streams on Hulu. There is also a General Hospital Network on Tubi where episodes run 24/7 so fans who desire can view both soaps. Save the date February 25 for the premiere of the new CBS soap.
