We were given many creative, incredible, original films this year and we were also given some remakes. Among those was I Know What You Did Last Summer, arguably one of the most iconic horror/thriller films of all time. The original had an incredible cast and a 90s charm to it that is hard to match. We will however be reviewing just this movie as it stands, on its own. We will be comparing how it holds up next to the original in a later article.
Here’s the deal, if my friends basically guilted and bullied me into covering up the fact that we were responsible for someone’s death there is no way that I would be staying in contact with them. On what planet are we still hanging out? Sorry no.
Yeah I don’t care if one of them is getting married, I think staying in contact after an event like that is actually insane. Like, they’re all bad people. I couldn’t do it. I understand agreeing not to tell anyone but we would not all be chill after that. Especially since she isn’t even marrying the original dude she was engaged to! Literally what the hell?
K, killing the new fiance just doesn’t make any sense. Also, not to be this person, but Danika being left at the altar essentially and then finding a new fiance and planning a wedding over the span of a year is too much. If you move on that quickly you 1) Never loved your original partner and/or 2) are so embarrassingly weak, you can’t handle being on your own. Either way she’s pathetic.
So I hate films that use technology, or slang that immediately dates it. The fact that the group's current jumping off point is a true crime podcast. The podcast is covering the events of the original film. Also referring to 1997 as “nearly 30 years ago” makes me physically ill. Don’t be rude, I’m a baby.
So…they decided to do an entire reboot (literally recycling the same EXACT plot as the first film), while also referencing the first film. That was a decision. I think they were looking for justification to include the original cast as that was the only way anyone was going to spend any time on this remake, but it really just makes its own story redundant. It’s lazy and entirely uninteresting.
Jennifer Love Hewitt is so beautiful, I think she’s the most amazing human and honestly I couldn’t care less about the quality of this movie as long as I get to see her.
And I get to see Sarah Michelle Gellar? Love that for me. She really is just the most beautiful woman. God the actresses of the 90s were at an entirely different level. No one now could possibly come close to this.
Okay so now Freddy Prince Jr.’s character is involved? Why? Again, it makes absolutely no sense. A little confused as to why they chose to redo the original movie but also shit on it at the same time, seems really unnecessary.
The end credit scene screams "desperately trying to franchise” and I hate it. I’ve said it 1000 times and I'll say it 1000 more, horror films SHOULD be 1 and done, there should be no franchising.
Honestly it was lazy, the whole film was lazy. Recycling the plot of the original film and then destroying one of the characters of the original film was just such a terrible choice. It was just another shallow remake of a good film. We can’t seem to escape this reboot hell hole and I am so over it. 5/10 at best.
