Wake Up Dead Man

Review

It’s been a little while since we have gotten a Knives Out film. Though the first one is yet to be topped, the series remains fun, twisty and extremely entertaining. With yet another all-star cast Wake Up Dead Man promises to live up to the hype of its predecessors.

Churches are good for mysteries…they are inherently creepy. And of course this family's church has a nice dark creepy history. Ya know what no one is even dead yet but if it's not the old lady who dies, she’s definitely the one that did it.

So this guy is using the church as a framework for his own little cult. That’s about right. And he is radicalizing all his parishioners against the actual messages of Christ. And they are so aggressively loyal, they won’t even sit down with the other priest. That’s crazy.

Oooo commentary. You know I love when movies actually have something to say and this one is pretty clear. In fact it couldn’t be clearer. Critiquing the current quality of churches and religion in general. Using it to justify politics as if the two have anything to do with each other. Fostering anger and division instead of inclusion and hope.

Daniel Craig’s entrances in these movies are so funny. He’s such a goober.

The local bar being devil themed in this tiny church town is hilarious. Yet all the die hard locals still go to this bar so how invested in the church are you really?

We love a locked door mystery which is great, those are more fun to solve. I am questioning my old lady theory, however if she found out that the priest was behaving inappropriately with a certain young member of the congregation she might feel the need to cleanse him.

Even the disabled girl Wicks was claiming to help, the one that keeps the church financially afloat admitted that he was full of shit and the church should be exposed.

This church has got secrets, and they are CRAZY secrets. Sir what do you mean from a loose woman of no importance, you're a PRIEST, you don’t get to have sex. These men are super delusional. How do you continue to back a priest that 1) lied to you, 2) abandoned his own child. 3) had sex in the first place. “We’re with you Wicks, nothing you say or do is gonna change that”...k that’s insane. You should not ever have that kind of loyalty to ANYONE, ever. Not your spouse, not your children, no one should get that kind of blind loyalty.

Then Wicks finally shows his shitty flock who he is. A raging psychopath.

God this cop is terrible. There is just no way that it was the priest. It literally doesn’t make any sense. Just truly an awful cop.

I love the way that Benoit does the recap. The unfolding of the answers is always the most fun part of a crime show or movie. I knew it was the old lady. I called that shit so fast. I knew this crazy zealot had something to do with it. I feel very vindicated during this wrap up.

They are really using the fact that they are filming in a church for this cinematography. Both creepy and beautiful, love that.

Overall the film was good, it was in fact too long. I think you really gotta have some incredible pacing if you are going to have a two hour movie and most people just don’t have that ability. This is no different, the pacing was too slow, too many portions of the movie were dragging on. Unfortunately for this series, the first film was just so good all sequels are an uphill climb. 7/10.
