Heart-Wrenching Moments in Vampire Diaries

While I still have Amazon Prime I decided to watch the shows that I have not touched in a while such as Jack Ryan, Happy Endings and Vampire Diaries. While re-watching Vampire Diaries I suddenly came up with a topic that was interesting to me and hopefully my readers. The vampire diaries it is all blood and guts and totally nuts. Of course, there are moments in the series where your heart leaps into your throat and you cannot help but get a little choked up. A lot of those moments include Damon Salvatore, the dark and witty vampire that somehow fans love more than Stefan Salvatore. I have compiled a light list of scenes in the earlier episodes of Vampire Diaries that got to me.

1. When Damon gives Elena her necklace back. Elena had been through a lot; she was kidnapped and they took the vervain necklace that prevents her from being compelled by a vampire. Damon saves the day by returning it to her, but before he does holds it up to her face and he finally admits what we all want to hear. We are all under the impression that Damon is selfish and obnoxious...until this scene and I feel like this was the scene where I understood Damon's intentions. The music in the background is what really gets me with the lyrics repeating "I was wrong" and the piano playing in the background and you hear the words "it's because I love you that I cannot be selfish with you" and those are the most beautifully strung words put together. We see tears come into his eyes as he does so.

2. When Damon steaks Rose in the heart. The audience meets the Vampire named Rose. She had a small part and role in the series because she gets bitten by a werewolf, which is lethal to a vampire. She starts hallucinating and nearly kills Elena. Once again Damon saves the day, but he does it in a way that was difficult for anyone to do. Damon kills her, but he was doing her a huge favor. I know this opens the debate of euthanasia, but for now let's leave the politics out of it and focus on the story line. Damon creates a beautiful ending for Rose to die peacefully, he gave her a wonderful gift by letting her see, her favorite spot one last time. We see that it destroys Damon as he takes a stake to her heart. We see a side of Damon that is human. He shows compassion towards someone he did not know very well, but have heard of.

3. When Caroline has to compel her own mother. Caroline gets transformed into a vampire thanks to Katherine and her mother finds out, at first Liz is afraid of Caroline and she refuses to believe that she has been transformed into something that she has grown up to hate. Then, when the two bond over Caroline's transformation despite having Liz locked up. Caroline wants her mother to know the truth about her, but she knows the risks of Liz knowing and she takes away the memories by compelling her own mother to save her life. We see a huge transformation in Caroline to being scared and anxious, she turns a brave face and does what she has to in order to save the people she loves and to save herself. Liz sees the person that Caroline becomes and for the first time is proud of her.

4. This is a scene that was hard to watch. Tyler's very first transformation. As an audience we saw Tyler as someone to not be messed with because of his anger problem, however there is a deeper meaning behind his anger. After an accident Tyler triggers the curse that transforms him into a werewolf. We see Tyler suffer through his transformation, he shouts and screams as his bones get broken and his body changes into a monster with fur, we see his weakness and a lot of us felt sorry for him to having go through that, he was lucky to have Caroline by his side, she risked her life to help him and that is the true meaning for friendship. This was a restricted viewership clip, so you might have to click a few things.

5. Jeremy's Overdose. Jeremy Gilbert is a kid who has been through a lot and he meets a wonderful girl named Anna but then learns that she is a vampire. Immediately Jeremy asks her to turn him, so he does not have live without her. Jeremy has been through a drug addiction and got better thanks to Anna. He decides to take the vampire blood and then takes pills to kill himself, so he can then rise as a vampire. Jeremy could have asked for Damon to take away his suffering but instead decides on attempting to turn himself into a vampire, not a very constructive solution, but we see his suffering and that is enough to pull on heartstrings.

6. Damon's Realization that Katherine never loved him. Katherine is a devil herself, she is selfish and only cares about herself and she does not care whose back she stabs in order to survive, she does everything and anything she can to keep living. Damon had his heart set on her because he loved her, but she lied to him and Stefan. Damon successfully rescues her only to be rejected by Katherine. For years Damon wanted to save her life and how does she repay him? by telling him she never loved him. Damon was ready to forgive and forget.

7. John's Farewell to Elena. John Gilbert was the one of the most hated characters on the show, he always had an agenda, he manipulated people to his liking and we all thought he was a horrible human being. Then his good-bye is what stuck with us and we realize that he did a lot to protect Elena and did not realize it. He accepted that Elena might be a vampire and found his piece with it. John admits his mistake, which takes a lot for anyone to do. He wishes only good things for Elena and I guess he was not that bad of a guy after all.
