Why am I genuinely excited about it?

My love of reading started from this magical series called "Harry Potter" I remember being hooked from the first day I picked up the books. However, I knew that as the movies came out one by one there would be elements missing from the books, I knew this going into it. Now, I am excited for the television series, why? Because I believe this is how it was meant to be shown. It was always meant to be a television series. The movies were great; however, they were inconsistent because of how many directors there were over the course of the movies. Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates were all directors of the films. That is a lot of directors to go through for a movie series...I hope the show gives more consistency.

The movies left out a lot in my opinion. Books are always better than the movies that is 100% for sure. However, television series can really bring the books to life the way it was meant to be, so nothing gets left out. Characters such as Rodolphus Lestrange, Professor Bins- the boring history teacher, Marietta Edgecombe - the real traitor of Dumbledore's army, Winky- the house elf (who played a major role in the 4th book), Peeves - yes he was meant to be in the movies, but the actors kept laughing they had to pull him out, Andromeda Tonks - being disowned by the Black family like Sirius, Ted Tonks - killed by greyback, Teddy Lupin - the child of Remus Lupin, Phineas Black- who was a portrait in the Black family house as well as Hogwarts, Ludovic Bagman - role in the 4th book as an ex quidditch player and was a bit of an idiot, Frank and Alice Longbottom - the most loyal wizards there ever lived, Charlie Weasely - probably the coolest character that they left out. It’s hard to fit all these characters in a movie so sacrifices were made to keep to the closest plot as possible without them turning into 7 hour movies. Once again a television show is a much better idea.

Casting was done brilliantly. However, we can kinda see how their acting careers came to a stop. Obviously, I don’t mean the more well established actors such as Maggie Smith or Alan Rickman. But the child actors are still seen as their Harry Potter characters. Some may argue that Emma Watson was Belle in Beauty and the Beast and I don’t agree with the casting because instead getting Emma Watson to lip sync, which would have been better than to add auto tune to all the songs. No offense but some people are meant to be actors and not singers. My ideal actress for Belle would’ve been Emily Rossum, but oh well. Then Daniel Radcliffe tried to get out of being seen as Harry Potter and I still see him as that character, but I think it’s because he played that role so well. Now, it is said that John Lithgow is to be Dumbledore, which I can see it as a success or as a flop. The problem with the previous dumbledore is that he didn’t have that warmth that required and I think that’s what Lithgow can bring to the table. However, Dumbledore is also a serious character and that’s where I struggle to see it. I could be proven wrong though. There’s only one way to find out.

I know that millennials might be pissed about their whole childhood being reimagined, but every time that I would watch any of the Harry Potter films I’d sit there and say stuff like “well that didn’t happen in the books” and “they totally left out that part”. I know some viewers have only ever watched the movies and what I say to those people is that they are missing out. I say that because over the years of the books being written by JK Rowling not only do you see character growth, but you see JK Rowling evolve with her writing. She created characters which you loathed such as Dolores Umbridge to lovable, friendly characters such as Hagrid. She created this imaginary world and managed to get everyone hooked and I think a lot of authors are trying readily to create a whole fandom or universe that everyone wants more.

In summary, I am so excited for the television show that I can’t wait to watch it!
