"Good Fortune" (2025): A Heartwarming and Hilarious Comedy

Good Fortune landed in theaters in 2025. Gabriel, the angel, helps Arj, a struggling gig worker who sleeps in his car. With different intentions, Gabriel has Arj swap lives with Jeff, a rich man. Now Gabriel must prevent a catastrophic series of events as the men deal with their new situations.

You never know whose looking out for you. I thought Good Fortune would be your average comedy, but I was proved wrong. I love it when that happens. I enjoyed Good Fortune more than I thought I would. Reminiscent of It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), Good Fortune is a saving grace for anyone who is going through a tough time.

Good Fortune stars Keanu Reeves, Aziz Ansari, and Seth Rogan. They make a talented trio and are hilarious together in their scenes. Each added their ideas, like Rogan’s jumping from an ice-cold tub to the sauna. They created a heartwarming friendship.

Keanu Reeves always makes for interesting casting because of his motivational voice delivery. He plays Gabriel, an angel searching for a different calling, and has to live like a human for the first time. Reeves makes anything funny, like eating ‘chicken nuggies.’

Aziz Ansari wrote, directed, and starred in Good Fortune. As his character Arj, he selfishly chooses his dream life over working low-paid jobs and feeling unrecognized. He undergoes a genuine journey.

Saying that Seth Rogen (Jeff) is hilarious is an understatement. In the two times I have seen this movie in theaters, I howled in laughter from everything he said and did. Rogan has a knack for comedy, but he has dramatic chops. He delivers a genuine performance of a man seeing the other half of life.

The film also stars the talented Keke Palmer as Elena, Arj’s love interest. I have been a fan of her work since watching her TV show True Jackson, V.P. (2008-2011). Palmer is great at finding depth in her characters. Elena has her hardships, but she always looks out for everyone.

No small role ever goes unnoticed. Sandra Oh plays the head angel, Martha. There are several small roles in Good Fortune, like Felipe Garcia Martinez, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Sherry Cola.

This was Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut. Ansari has starred in media, like Parks and Recreation and Master of None. He is also a stand-up comedian. Good Fortune originally began as Being Mortal, a film that would star Bill Murray in 2022. With several other delays, including the 2023 writers’ strike, Ansari didn’t give up on the project.

Ansari described working on the filming as unforgettable. Aside from accomplishing the film’s comedy, Ansari speaks from the heart and connects with audiences about relatable issues. The dialogue is sharp, and the actor’s deliveries are hilarious.

We’ve all wished that we could live someone else’s life or choose a different pathway. Just because things aren’t going your way right now doesn’t mean they always will. It depends on your outlook. Life in the world is a struggle, especially making money, but keep trying. Accept alternatives. Most importantly, be honest.

It’s a comical and heartwarming film. I’ve already seen it twice in theaters. I was laughing and laughing, which is needed medicine. It’s also one of those films that reassures audiences they’re not alone in the walk of life. We have each other’s backs.

Good Fortune is a great November movie to remind you of what you’re thankful for. If you’re looking for a new comedy, Good Fortune is the film to see.
