Michael Corinthos is a beloved character

General Hospital viewers were sad when Chad Duell decided to leave his role as Michael Corinthos. He had portrayed the popular character from 2010 until January 2025 and fans could not imagine anyone else stepping in.

GH execs remained mum about what would happen to Michael until it was announced that Rory Gibson would take over the role. Soap fans usually have to take some time to get used to replacements, and not every recast is welcome. Gibson quickly made the role his own and is now a fan favorite.

He has given Michael an edge that at times, reminds us of Stone Cold Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). Michael is also calculating and as ruthless as Sonny Corinthos.

Chad Buell has two new film projects

Some GH fans have been curious about what Duel has been up to and if he might return to the ABC soap. The actor was in a play and recently revealed that he has two new projects.

He will be portraying a blind man who has to carry his injured friend through the wilderness in one movie. In the second film, he will play a man who's in jail for assisting his terminally ill father with ending his life.

Duell entertains returning to daytime

When asked if he would consider a role on one of the other soaps, Chad gave the following response.

"Yeah, I would entertain doing another daytime soap. It just depends on the role, how it is there, how they see my body of work, and whether the team is excited for me. If they have a good storyline and good character, then I'm all on board," Duel

When he left General Hospital at the end of 2024, Duell said he needed some me time and wanted to deal with the death of his father. About six months went by, and he did not indicate if he would return to Port Charles as Michael, but the show went on.

GH fans love Gibson in the role of Michael

GH execs did not keep the character in the German burn unit indefinitely but hired Gibson and brought Michael home. If General Hospital hired Duell again, it would be in a different role unless Gibson stopped portraying Michael.

Fans are loving his great performances, so he will probably stick around. Everyone is wondering if Michael is the one who shot Drw Cain (Cameron Mathison). Many fans say they cannot see anyone else in the role.

The ABC soap does bring back former cast members from time to time. Steve Burton returned to General Hospital as Jason Morgan, and Dominic Zampragna came back as Dante Falconeri. Recently, Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne) and Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) also showed up alive and well.

General Hospital actors who returned in different roles

Some General Hospital actors played different roles, like Michael Easton, who portrayed Dr.Silas Clay, Caleb Morley, Dr. Hamilton Finn, and John McBain. Roger Howarth portrayed Todd Manning, Franco Baldwin, and Dr. Austin Gatlin Holt.

Best of luck to the soap vet in his new roles. Time will tell whether Duell will return to General Hospital as a different Port Charles resident or if he might turn up on The Bold and the Beautiful. Days of Our Lives, or The Young and the Restless.

Perhaps he might join the cast of Beyond the Gates, where two General Hospital actors, Jon Lindstrom and Greg Vaughn, are already working. Be on the lookout for updates related to what comes next for Chad Duell and what to look forward to in Port Charles for November Sweeps.
