They are really packing in the plot and action this season. In the last episode we found out that project Odyssa is referring to Marie somehow. Kate got really violent in her little recovery coma and Sam seems to be trying to fight the mind control that Kate has done to him. And we are just ramping up.
Polarity is in fact babysitting these teenagers. His giant house seems to be headquarters now. He is genuinely concerned about Emma and how she transforms from big to small. I love that she finally has an adult that seems to give a shit about her.
Marie and Jordan now also need to deal with the fact that Marie said “I love you”. Jordan is desperately avoiding the subject.
Cate returns to school to a crowd full of cameras. She seems to be having trouble with her powers, she can normally hear people’s thoughts, but she can’t hear anything. She does however remember that Jordan and Marie are the reason that she is in the hospital, and she’s definitely bitter about it.
Sam is strung the fuck out. He is rocking like a tweaker trying to break through Cate’s mind control. And then there was the whole fact that this boy was a little bit crazy even before everything that happened. He has been Vought’s puppet for a few months now meaning he did some truly monstrous things and when he reenters his little puppet world he gets called out for it.
Marie freaks out because Jordan won’t talk about their relationship, and they tell her that she can’t say I love you to the first person that you have sex with. This obviously doesn’t help Marie's freakout and really just helps them avoid any and all responsibility regarding their relationship.
Cate does in fact go to Cypher about who really attacked her and he basically tells her that if Vought finds out, then they also find out that she is useless right now.
So something interesting that has been happening in these last few episodes are the little resist signs. At the coffee stand there have been little notecards that say RESIST with a little star, and then in the common room there is spray paint that says resist. We can tell by the sound that it's a speedster, and we know that A-Train is off on the loose somewhere.
Jordan is the one that helps pull Sam back to reality. He gets him to chill out a bit.
Marie goes to talk to her aunt and I am so willing to bet that when she does go see her someone from Vought is going to be there, or the aunt is reporting to Vought one or the other.
Also Cypher equating how Marie uses her powers to self harm is crazy but also accurate and I really love how this show uses these kids powers to talk about hard shit that affects teenagers. Erik Kripke you are a genius.
Turns out Marie is a result of being conceived in a fertility clinic, so they were in fact trying to engineer children from birth. She looks through pictures of that day and finds a picture of Cypher holding her, apparently he was the doctor that delivered her.
Turns out the starlighter is Harper, one of the more outspoken social media morons. Turns out she is a chameleon and can mimic anyone’s powers for a short period of time. There is apparently a group of secret starlighters on campus.
Marie finds out that her sister did in fact get to go live with her aunt. I really hate how everyone is treating Marie. Marie is the monster that killed her parents. But mommy and daddy chose to let Vought get involved, she didn’t know had powers let alone how to control them. Her aunt and her sister still treat her like she is a serial killer. I love that she stands up for herself, she has finally let go of all the guilt that she has carried around forever and realized that it's not her fault, and that she didn’t do anything wrong.
My poor Emma finds out that these secret starlighters have no plan and all they are good for is a little light vandalism. Emma is trying to inspire real resistance and change from these super heroes.
Jordan does say I love you back to Marie. They realize that they are in the middle of a war and could die at any moment, so they finally say it back and I love it. They start off with the speech that was written for them but they couldn’t do it. Jordan tells the whole school that Andre is dead and they are the one that attacked Cate, which seems to be what Cypher wanted or knew was going to happen.
And the tension continues to build. This season really doesn’t have a bad episode so far, there really isn't even an episode that is slightly less brilliant. Kirpke was locked in this season and it shows.
