Dune Prophecy

Finale

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished about a year ago 4 min read

It seems a little fast but we are in fact at the end of the first season of Dune Prophecy. We can only assume that they planned on this being more seasons because there is simply no way to wrap up all of our loose ends in this one final episode. So far the show has done an incredible job of giving us background into the rise of the Bene Gesserit and of the beginnings of House Harkonnen. I am very excited to see how the first season of this new series ends. So let’s dive into the Dune Prophecy finale.

HOLY SHIT. DESMOND IS TULA’S CHILD. I suppose we could have figured that out at the end of the last episode when the breeding index showed that he was an Atredeis and a Harkonnen but Jesus I have just been so sucked into the show that my brain didn’t even go there.

So we have determined that this thing Desmond does is actually a virus that feeds off of fear. The sisters decide that because of that it is something that they can probably transmute and therefore cure, but that very much does not go as planned.

Atreides is being tortured by Desmond and he seems to be protecting Mikaela. He isn’t giving up the fact that he knows that she is a sister.

Momma is on a power trip. She arrested her own daughter for trying to free Atreides. This is so clearly against Valya’s plans so she starts making movies to free the princess. Moves that include killing the emperor.

Tula decides to go talk to her son…because he just seems so reasonable and susceptible to discussion and logic. I feel like Tula is going to die. And her lack of presence at the sisterhood is going to cause some problems.

Someone in Lila’s mind sedated Sister Jen. She’s definitely going to try and take over in Tula’s absence. Oh it's Dorotea…that’s not great. Jen breaks her hands to get herself out of her restraints. Girl is a badass.

Now to be completely fair to Desmond he did tell the Emperor the truth, the emperor is just too penis blind to believe him.

Sister Emmeline seems to leaning hard into the faith part of the sisterhood. She is fully going hard into the old ways here, which is in direct disobedience of Valya…so that's gonna end well.

Emmeline and Jen are fully on the opposite ends of this fight. It's Valya and Dorotea all over again. Though Jen really isn’t bought into any part of the sisterhood she seems like she just had nowhere else to go.

Momma really takes on the Emperor head to head with Desmond at her side. I kind of hate her. Like she is just on a power trip and I really can’t stand her. Every decision she makes is annoying and wrong. She arrested her own daughter.

Valya really sits on the throne and tells the Emperor everything. His guards straight up hesitate to arrest her at his command.

Okay so Valya did share the voice with only her innermost circle. Tula, Kasha and Franchesca all had the voice. They basically slaughtered all the sisters that wouldn’t follow Valya, so the ones that stayed only followed out of fear. Tula seems to have a pretty healthy fear of her sister as well.

Ynez refuses to leave without Atreides, which gives Desmond time to sound the alarms in an attempt to lock these three down in the palace. Apparently Theodosia has some sort of shape shifting abilities, that’s cool but it also feels really random. We haven’t seen anyone do that before. I think we are really pushing the limits of what is possible in this world.

The Emperor kills himself because he feels it is the only thing that he can control. And Natalya kills Franchesca, this crazy bitch. But I thought that the Bene Gesserit could transmute poison…guess we will see.

Dorotea shows the acolytes the remains of the girls that Valya killed in her rise to power. Jen still seems really not bought into any of this. But Emmeline is following with no questions asked here.

Ynez and Atredeis fighting off like 8 dudes together was super hot…that was an amazing scene.

Desmond now knows that Tula is his mother and he has her arrested anyway.

This episode was definitely longer than previous episodes, which makes sense because they had a lot to get done in this episode. I still want to know more about the thinking machine war, but I think we are past that as a series. Though maybe not, Valya knows that they still exist so we could get more of that. Watching Tula finally stand up for herself was really incredible. The show did such a good job of making Valya relatively sympathetic. I love that Tula kind of waited till the end to not only push back against her sister but also reveal that she has some grit and strength as well.

So what could we possibly see next season? The fallout of Desmond and Tula, he had her arrested but he knows that she is his mother. Valya still trying to stop the reckoning. Valya trying to maintain control of the sisterhood after Dorotea gathered all of the Acolytes and destroyed their little AI system. Sister Emmeline and Sister Jen properly choosing sides. Harrow gathering and rising to power. There is a lot to work with for another season or 5. I am anxious to see what happens, the story they chose to tell is great and they really set it up to be an ongoing series so I hope that it gets that chance.
