Paul and Silas sing their way out of prison

Faith under fire

In the song One Nation Under a Groove, Parliament sings about life being so low you can't get under it, so wide you can't get around it, and so high you can't go over it.

Their answer is dancing your way out of constrictions as they sing "Feet don't fail me now." When believers in Christ feel constricted in situations they cannot go under, get around, or get over, it's time to sing "Faith don't fail me now."

Music is powerful

I once told my husband that I was taking a page out of Parliament's book and would write my way out of my financial constrictions. Although I was listening to a secular song, I was praising God in my heart.

While listening to One Nation, I wrote an article a few moments later that won $2,000 in a Vocal Challenge contest. Everything in my life has not worked out, and sometimes my faith needs a lift. I share this for those who need a faith boost.

Singing your way out of constrictions

Acts chapter 15 verses 25-34 tells the story of Apostle Paul and his companion Silas, who were beaten and jailed for their faith in Jesus. Instead of complaining about their situation, they sang praises and worshipped the Lord.

There was an earthquake at midnight, and the prison doors were opened. The prison guard over them asked what he had to do to be saved, and they told him to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. He took Paul and Silas to his home, cleaned and fed their wounds.

The guard and his entire family received salvation. Preachers often tell this story, encouraging believers that praising God can turn it around when they are in midnight situations. Thsi hub will examine two accounts where this happened.

Does praise and worship break bondage

Hezekiah Walker released a song titled Every Praise ( In the above video) in May 2013 that became an anthem in many churches. One year later this song saved the life of a nine-year-old child.

In 2014, The Christian Post and other news outlets reported that Willie Myrick from Atlanta, Georgia, was kidnapped from his driveway. For three hours, his kidnapper drove around as Wylie sang Every Praise, which he learned in Sunday school.

There are so many terrible scenarios of what could have happened to the little boy, but his praise to the Lord kept him from harm. The kidnapper cursed and told Willie to shut up, but did not touch him. He finally threw the child out of the vehicle, advising him not to tell anyone.

Willie and Walker were honored

Willie's town honored him during a special ceremony, and when Hezekiah Walker found out about it, he attended and received a standing ovation. The gospel recording artist said he believed God gave him this song just to save Willie's life.

The kidnapper was never found, but hopefully, he repented of his actions, and this encounter led him to turn to the Lord. Walker was in awe of the situation and said "You never know whose life you will touch". What was the kidnapper thinking while driving for three hours? Whatever plans he had were frustrated by the praises going up to heaven.

In the hole without medication

Last week, I realized I had not heard from a relative in a few days. I called, but his phone was off. I later learned he had been in jail for 30 days without bond. He could not call me because Verizon does not allow collect calls on cell phones.

Four days later, his number showed up on my phone. He said that because of hip problems, he changed bunks with his cellmate, and the guard became angry.

When my family member would not say whose idea it was to change beds, he was placed in the hole. This 64-year-old man was put in solitary confinement, and he was without his psych meds and prescription for physical ailments. He said the hole was dark and without windows, and he thought he would lose his mind.

Testimonies of faith are an encouragement

My relative said he began singing a line from Thrive's Pour Your Spirit Out: (In the above video) "Just like Lazarus out of that grave, our God rewrites history.

Just like Silas singing with Paul, praise can break down prison walls."He sang over and over and received a miracle. He was sent before the magistrate and granted a $2,000 bond, and one of his employers paid the $200, and he was set free in seven days.

These stories of faith do not guarantee that everyone who sings and praises will have the same results, but are to encourage believers to keep walking by faith, praising and worshipping in their darkest hour. If you are released from the situation that has you down, your testimony will bless others.

Cheryl, this gets a hallelujah! I believe. I know that listening to praise and worship puts me in focus to let the Holy Spirit renew me. I know the old devil hates that.
