Ding, Dong, The Pooper Lost

Fear and Loathing in a Virginia Courtroom

By The Vent By Franklin NewberryPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

We've all been glued to our screens for weeks now, watching the Johhny Deep/Amber Heard courtroom drama unfold. We've seen Johnny attack kitchen Cabinets. We've heard hours of testimony. We've heard the two verbally attack one another on recordings. We've seen the aftermath of an Amber Heard bowel movement. We laughed. We cried. We thanked the Lord the Aquaman starlet didn't poop in our bed.

The whole courtroom held its collective breath as the verdict was read. When we all finally took a breath again, justice had been served. We all knew that was the correct call all along. But in this age of political correctness above all else, I think many of us had our doubts. I certainly did. I must say, that I'm happy to have been wrong.

Johnny's legal team handled the case extremely well, particularly Camille Vasquez. Ms. Vasquez was the obvious rock star of the entire circus. She was definitely the secret weapon in Depp's legal tool box. Her handling of Heard's cross examination and her closing statement, were nearly flawless. Overall, I feel like Depp's team outworked and indeed outclassed Heard's attorneys at every turn.

In my opinion, and the opinion of most of the people I've talked to, Amber Heard was her own worst witness. Her blatant lies and her fake weeping and blubbering absent even a hint of tears were at times unbearable. These things were of course intended to draw sympathy from the jury. Unfortunately for Ms. Heard, it just left her looking petty and ridiculous. Thankfully, her attempts to make herself look like a poor little battered woman fell flat. The jury saw through it all.

In the end, the jury awarded Johnny fifteen million dollars. They did however award Amber two million on her one hundred million dollar countersuit. In my opinion, it was probably meant to be a little sugar to help the poison of that fifteen million dollar judgment against her go down a little easier. It seems that Johnny's life may begin to get back on track now. In my opinion that is the most important thing. It seems that he's already beginning to recieve roles again, and has already been back on the stage playing music. I'm sure that doesn't change the way he feels about the fact that he's been dragged through hell by Heard, her followers, and the mainstream media for years, but it's something.

The important thing about this verdict is that it will hopefully make people stop and think about what they're doing before they try to destroy someone's reputation by publicly smearing them. Many of us knew from the very beginning of the "Me too" movement that this kind of thing was going to happen. When you make blanket statements like "we must believe every woman", it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that there will be people who hear a statement like that, and take it as a clear indication that they can say anything they like about anybody. They know they can get by with it because you've already told them you'll believe them without question.

Today marks a victory for truth, justice, and due process. It's far too easy for a person to be cancelled into oblivion by the mere hint of an allegation like this these days. Many times, people who are attacked in this way by someone who bears false witness, already have their lives destroyed before the truth of the situation is ever weighed out in a court of law. Just the accusation of sexual harrasment, domestic violence, or rape is enough to destroy you, particularly if you are a white male. This has to change.

Hopefully, this court case will serve as a first step in making that change happen. Far too many people have been harmed by such accusations. Many times, the damage is already done by the time the truth comes out. Another case that will soon be going to court is a lawsuit of the same nature against Evan Rachel Wood, by Brian "Marilyn Manson" Warner. In my personal opinion, that case is very similar to what we just saw. We will just have to wait and see how it all turns out.
