Ananya Pandey's starrer thriller film CTRL is currently streaming on Netflix. The film has been written by the famous director Vikramaditya Motwane and this is one of the main reasons why this film was in a lot of discussions.
So CTRL is a crime thriller in which the damage caused by modern-day technology has been shown. The ending of the film is somewhat unexpected, so many viewers have a lot of questions about it. At the beginning of the movie, we see Nella and Joe who are an internet influential couple and have a huge reach on social media.
One day Nella plans to give a live surprise to Joe but the plan backfires on her because Joe is kissing another girl. After this is telecast live, Nella receives a lot of internet trolling and after facing all this, she gets upset and takes the help of an AI app to delete Joe's memory from her life. This was the biggest mistake of her life because after this Joe disappeared. Nella then comes to know that many of Joe's friends have also disappeared.
Nella starts her investigation and after a lot of investigation, she finds out many shocking things about a company called Mantra. After doing more research, Nella finds a video of Joe in which Joe is telling how Mantra company is accessing people's laptops and phones and stealing data from them and how that data is being misused.
Joe has also told in the video that Mantra is accessing the private photos and videos of users and selling their deep fake videos or even their bank account details.
When Nella gets Joe's video, she is shocked after seeing it and wants to upload that video on her social media so that people become aware of the scam and fraud Mantra company is doing with people.
As soon as Nella uploads the video, some changes are made in her video through AI. Another edited version of that video gets uploaded online in which Joe is saying that if anything happens to him, Nella will be responsible for it. Then the police arrest Nella but Nella files a case against Mantra company.
Then in the next scene, we see that a lawyer from Mantra company threatens Nella to withdraw her case and also talks about ruining her if she does not do so, so in the end, Nella withdraws the case and is released from jail.
At the end of the film, we see that Nella works in her father's bakery shop and creates a faceless social media account in which she is not getting any special views, likes or engagement.
In the last few seconds of the film, we also see that Nella again logs in to that AI app and starts talking to it and the film ends here.
The ending of the film is quite confusing and many people have a lot of questions in their minds about its ending. What is the meaning of such an ending and did Joe ever get justice and did the founders of Mantra company ever get punished? We are not able to get answers to such questions, so let's decode this ending.
So by not making the ending filmy, the makers have tried to keep it real to a great extent. This film portrays the message that many technology companies and AI are controlling us and no matter what we do, it cannot be changed.
The addiction aspect is also shown in the film, how Nella's life got ruined because of an app and Joe lost his life and Nella again goes to take the help of that app.
An open ending has been kept and the makers have tried to show that this whole game is of power or money and there is no happy ending here.
