Cruel Intentions

Episode 8

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Cruel Intentions has proved itself to be an incredible adaptation. They didn’t change anything major from the plot. They simply added to it, giving the characters more time to breathe and develop. I think the change in setting was brilliant and really aided the story. And though some of the characterizations were adjusted I think the integrity of the source material is fully intact. We are now in the finale of the season (perhaps series) and I hope they continue their brilliant writing through the end of the last episode.

So Lucien’s sex tapes have been released to the entire campus. Annie goes to comfort Beatrice. Beatrice continues to be insufferable, by making the sex tape thing about her. It literally has nothing to do with her. It's a game between Caroline and Lucien and Beatrice is so annoying.

Okay so it was definitely Caroline that leaked the sex tapes, Lucien doesn’t seem to have any idea what everyone is talking about. Lucien is really blindsided by the fact that Caroline released his sex tapes. This confrontation is really the breaking point between the two. Caroline wanted to regain control of Lucien but she ended up sending him away.

Scott is really upset with Blaise and it doesn't seem like Blaise can talk himself out of this one. His attempts to blame Lucien don’t work. He tries to go straight to the congressmen but the adult sees right through his childish bullshit. But Blaise has been around these people enough to know how to manipulate, and he ends up manipulating himself right out of his closest friendship. And I now feel really bad for this poor dumb Scott.

Cece finds out that someone reported her professor for sexual misconduct and she starts to spiral. She thinks that it's Beatrice that made the complaint, but upon finding out the nature of the complaint she starts to question the professor and her friends.

When Cece and Beatrice have their little friendship moment it's very clear that the dynamics of this campus are about to shift.

Caroline tries to use Beatrice’s passion and insufferability to her benefit.

Caroline has been manipulating the story so hard. She is literally pulling the strings on everyone and they want me to hate her so hard but I just can't. When the man in the story is just as bad and the woman is hot I just can't hate the woman. I am not sorry about it.

Caroline has the pledge ceremony and Lucien goes to mommy dearest to get back at her. He sleeps with his stepmom…ew. And here is where the lie is gonna come out. And even when Cece finds out Caroline stole her story she still defends her.

God Caroline’s mom really makes it so I root for Caroline. Her mother is so awful, anything Caroline does is magically justified.

Blaise leaves the frat house with the book of all the guys' dirty deeds, so he has that as ammo.

And they use the same song in the show for Caroline’s final take down as they do in the movie. Still curious as to why we are acting like she’s the only problem. Lucien is alive and well…that’s kind of a bummer.

Incredibly ambiguous ending so I am guessing that they wanted to leave themselves open for a second season. Honestly if they keep up with these vibes I am all for them taking on another season. This very well could be an ongoing show with a rotating cast of characters. They did drop the entire show at once, which I guess makes sense because it's really just an extended version of the movie. But shows tend to do better with the weekly releases.
