Content Creation Is an Art
If you are a content creator you can benefit from other forms of art
10 years ago, not everyone could pursue writing or video making. And even if you could, it would not help you earn a living out of it. You needed to have a credible education to back your knowledge and even then not all would be able to pursue it.
It is different now, we have much more liberty when it comes to content creation. You can now be a YouTuber. Or an IGTV streamer. Or a Medium writer. Or a self-published author, publishing a new book every year.
While it gives equal opportunities to everyone, there would always be differences between good content and bad content. And the quality of information would make a lot of difference to your success as a content creator.
I believe with all my heart that blogging is an art. An art just as powerful as any other, from painting to movie-making to novel-writing.
Art vs. Content Creation
The formal definition of Art according to Wikipedia is:
The three classical branches of art are painting, sculpture and architecture. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of the arts.
To me, all of the above art branches fall into the same category. The category of creatives trying to express something to the rest of the world.
Even though the forms are different, the purpose remains the same.
We need to start recognizing the fact that content creation is a new type of art that we haven’t seen before. We are in the genesis of it.
Music
Creating songs require a lot of effort. Creative effort. The instruments, the lyrics, the vocals, and the direction. All condensed within 3–5 mins and packs so much content. It requires a lot of hard work.
And a song becomes viral when all of the above things fall right into place. Try listening to any song that you love and you will experience another dimension that you missed till now. It could be the sound of the flute playing in the background or a beat of the drums.
This is what makes a good song so special and wonderful.
When you write, you need to take similar factors into account. Writing has multiple dimensions as well. According to Grammarly, there are four main types of writing: expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative.
You need to choose between the different styles to empower your purpose of writing, then you need to choose the words, and finally, a great story or experience to get your point through. Balancing these factors leads to a great article.
Television Shows
I don’t think anyone thought a TV show could truly be “art” until very recently. Shows like the Breaking Bad, Lost, and Arrested Development paved the way, and displayed just how much a television show could compete with any other art form, from movies to novels.
Try to focus on the feelings that you get when you watch those shows. The storyline, the characters, the suspense, and the thrill. I enjoy these shows and I take inspiration from them.
I write simple blogs to share my experiences or ideas with the same sense of quality. It makes me look at those tiny details. Every TV show is edited and carefully checked before it is released for the public. That is the reason why we never see any glitches or mistakes in the show.
Imagine while watching an episode you see a duplicated scene or a scene from a different episode. It is hard to even imagine because that never happens.
Similarly, while writing you need to read it multiple times. Rearranging paragraphs if the flow does not seem right, removing unnecessary information, and then reading it again. It is a tedious process, but a much better choice then publishing articles with mistakes.
Final thoughts
It is a crazy time to live and content creation is becoming as real a profession like anything else. Many experienced writers on this platform have already figured out how this works. But understanding considering it as other art forms will only increase its quality and will ensure that we will have remarkable work in the future.
Then I tried out writing and learned that it’s a match for me now as I consider that as an art form. I have things to share and express and writing gives me that outlet.
A blank canvas, a need to express, and an experience worth sharing.
