Britny Sarpy fans wonder about her fate on ‘The Young and the Restless’

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS writers have yet another character that they don’t seem to know what to do with. Britney Sarpy arrived in Genoa City as Elena Dawson in 2019 and began a romance with Devon Hamilton. H was still grieving his deceased wife and Elena always s felt as though she was in Hilary’s shadow. Elena came to town as a nurse who waring for musician Jet Slade who was the father f Devon's sister Ana.

After Hillary’s twin Amanda came to town it was more than Elena could take. She had a one-night stand with Nate Hastings who is Devon's cousin and things got pretty messy for all concerned. and later broke up with Devon. Nate had been getting closer to Amanda and viewers were not certain which way the storyline was headed. Now it looks like Dr. hastings might be interested in Amanda's halfsister Imani and Elena will leave Genoa City. She shared with Nate that she had a great job offer out of town and he asked what reason she might have for not taking it?

Both Elena and Nate were looking as if they still care for one another but there is no way to know if the writers will have this play out. During COVID it had been teased that Sarpy and costar Bryton James would have steamy love scenes since they are dating in real time but that did not happen. Instead, this is when Elena and Nate had their first night together and the scene was done in silhouette.

There were also spoilers suggesting that Elena and Lolo might take things past the friend zone as they were hanging out a lot. Now, however, Sasha Calle has left THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS to film her role as Supergirl in a new movie. Many fans of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS are wondering if the exchange between Elena and Nate indicates they might get back together and she not take the job or if she will walk away and leave Genoa City?

During her 2 years on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Britny Sarpy has not been utilized as she should have or could have been. The same thing happened when she was on GENERAL HOSPITAL portraying Valerie Spencer. On the ABC soap, Valerie came to town as the cousin of Luke and Bobbie Spencer. She ended up in bed with Dante Falconeri who was married to Luke's daughter Lulu. Valerie became a police officer and often was not seen for months.

There was a hint of a possible romance with Kristina Davis and the two shared a kiss. The next thing viewers heard was that Sarpi and walked away from GH and taken a contract role on Y&R. The role of Valerie was recast but the character has not been seen in over a year. It is unfortunate that Elena Dawson's character is in the neverland of soaps as happened to her castmate Sasha Calle. Lola was married to Kyle, then had one night with Theo and basically became a sounding board for other characters.

Those who watch THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS should not be surprised that the powers that be are not investing in Britny Sarpi who has only been around for 2 years. Think about the way they have treated Doug Davidson who portrayed Paul Williams for close to 30 years. Soap writers and viewers often do not see eye to eye and that is just part of the business.

Fans understand that the Abbotts and Newmans will always be front and center on Y&R. Even so when the time is taken to hire a new character who is under contract the least THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS can do is make it worth the while of the actor and give them something to work with.
