Sweet & Sour (Netflix), Inside Out 2, and The One for Sarah.

The 'brief and not-so-brief opinions' articles are my outlet to rant about or appreciate movies, shows and their elements. I will express my thoughts while watching and after or only after watching, it depends. I will not be rating. These are not spoiler-free for the most part and no research will be made for or about them(unless curious or accidental which would be mentioned). They are in no particular order of recent watching as well. However, the opinions are in order of viewing the movie or show (for the most part). This wouldn't be as structured or detailed as well and there would be no set number of picks per article, it would be just as things go. It is intended to be casual. So think, conversations about movie plots, characters, topics-so something like that.

Sweet & Sour (2021)

  • This is cute and all but how long was he in here?
  • Da-eun and Hyeok have a nurse and patient relationship that grew over time. He's an engineering grad with a job offer and she's a recent grad working a tiring job.
  • Wow, he was determined to call her!
  • The text memes are hilarious.
  • A wonderful well-paced view of their relationship. The name is a choice but it does apply to the movie's subject of love either staying sweet or turning sour. It also applies to their relationship shaped by self-esteem and care through food and weight.
  • He lost weight as he wanted.
  • Love the support from Hyeok's boss but as she said he should have discussed the relocating and new position with her. Da-eun's boss is still a hater though.
  • He bought Da-eun a ring and a car promising to drive back every day. However, he has to over-perform because he finds out he isn't the only new transfer. He gets into a rivalry with Bo-yeong and that's all he talks about but Da-eun supports him still.
  • This man was so happy when he got his revenge.
  • Due to their tedious plans, Da-eun suggests they meet that weekend instead and they agree.
  • Who is this hater who keeps trying to encourage him to get with Bo-yeong?
  • Also, different kinds of foods are included in this.
  • The state of their relationship is represented by him fixing the bulb and not.
  • Lmaooo I like that he ran away but saying you have a girlfriend would've helped you know.
  • The silence on both sides from probable disappointment at her pregnancy was alarming.
  • Why did she send him away? Saw he was uncomfortable?
  • Well, he seemed to be there out of duty and less of excitement. He really took her suggestion to leave her again. Well, he's still trying to find a balance.
  • Wait, he cheats as she's pregnant?
  • He said he didn't like sweets anymore because he didn't want to gain weight, - the relationship soured.
  • Seeing his life change from being prepared and successful to things slowing down and him becoming like the men getting ready in traffic who he ridiculed is interesting.
  • Oh he's a guard(the person that ships them)
  • Yeah, I was right. He said some things which doused her excitement on their date after not seeing each other in a while. She decides to leave with him and leave what she is looking at. She is saddened so much that she asks if spending time with her is exhausting and they talk before this man dearly calls her Bo-yeong.
  • Lmaooo the radio was on point. This man gaslights her but admits he kept coming to her because he pitied her, crazy.
  • Did they lose the baby?
  • She returns the ring. Oh, this is when he cheated on her. Wooooowwww, it's like he and Bo-yeong are in a relationship now. She even talks about wanting a baby soon.
  • Lmaoo his former boss tells him karma is gonna get him for kicking his devoted friends and employees.
  • Did they break up? Not explicitly if anything.
  • Lmaoooo there were two different Hyeoks. Wowww, that was really good. I did wonder if they were the same person at some point but I thought weight loss affected the face and all.
  • Huh good for her I guess. She didn't really seem happy though.
  • Oh, I think they lost the baby because she was smoking again which could be compared to her intense reaction to Hyeok smoking when she was pregnant.
  • Lmaooo this guy really went back to Bo-yeong. He's so shameless.
  • Ohhh was Da-eun who the guard was talking about losing a person and they are lost forever or did it just apply to her?
  • He thinks about how it all went wrong questioning several moments before blaming his boss, saying he loves Bo-yeong and trying to give her the ring he gave Da-eun. However, Bo-yeong rejects it saying she wasn't there yet. Hahaha, good for her.
  • Now, he has no girlfriend and has to go back to his old job because he wasn't retained. This is interesting because this new job and it's travels amplified some things in his relationship with Da-eun. Huh, guess that's why he blamed his boss which was just hilarious but he made his choices.

Inside Out 2 (2024)

On my Letterboxd account, I wrote:

I enjoyed this! Loved the depiction of her sense of self, the stream of consciousness, the brain storm, and more. It's a wonderful depiction of the mind and the importance of balance.

Some other opinions I had are:

  • Loved the protection program to the "not gonna think about that right now" place hahaha.
  • More of the Joy and Sadness partnership like in the first movie.
  • The importance of sadness as we learnt in the last movie is shown when Joy recognizes that Riley needed that moment.
  • The new emotions and all the voice actors are great!
  • The importance of balance.
  • Joy freaking out again when she's not in charge of Riley.
  • Wow, anxiety really trashed Riley's beliefs. She has some points but them building a new Riley is wild especially since they just got there.
  • They really bottled up the emotions and had them with denial. Denial's denial of having friends on a show (like Dora) felt depressing.
  • Lmaooo I like the different animation styles of the suppressed emotions.
  • The basic emotions have to experience change like Riley.
  • Lmaooo Fear thinks he can change Anxiety.
  • Aw, poor Joy. I felt bad she snapped but I was glad she opened up and that Anger comforted her.
  • Love that Embarrassment helps Sadness.
  • I love the growth in everything from the characters, the islands, the animation etc.
  • The complexity of emotions as even Anger says he can't always be the rage guy.
  • Wow, Anxiety's domination is spreading but I'm happy to see the positives and negatives of thinking. However, Anxiety focused on preparation and not on Riley's happiness which is possible when a goal is in mind as it was for her.
  • Glad that Embarrassment also saw the importance of balance once they were pushing Riley to do what even she didn't want to do it. I thought that was interesting as well to show her innate control.
  • Anxiety is a manipulator. She and Envy are a dangerous duo.
  • Yeah, Joy's breakdown hurt. Wow, the "you feel less joy when you grow up" is…hm.
  • Lmaooo even Pouchy needed a moment. He got pissed and said he won't always have everything.
  • Loved the depiction of Riley's sense of self as complex but it's also beautiful.
  • Riley's friends and Val are great too.
  • Happy for Joy she really loves Riley as they all do but she got welcomed back.
  • They love Riley in totality "every messy, beautiful piece of her."
  • Happy they all balance and take care of each other. Such a great watch!

The One for Sarah (2022)

I'm proud of Sarah. She had to overcome the fear of being shackled to an abusive ex-boyfriend while trying to affirm herself and taking chances. She took a chance to be friends with Michael and to be in a relationship with Fred despite the fear of a possible change. Lizzy was wonderful and supportive. She told her, "You can "what if" from now till tomorrow but you'd never find out unless you go out with him." Even Joy who was a supportive customer of her's encouraged her to take chances. Sarah tells her things are not that simple relationship-wise but Joy says it is and that answering certain questions make things easy but women make things complicated. She talks about how she and Andy got together. She says "We love who we love and we marry who we marry but we're lucky if it's the same person."

She says Sarah should take her time but "Go with someone that you're going to see yourself happy with for a very long time. A moment is only going to last for a moment and that's what people fail to realize but whatever you decide make sure it's for you and only you. You got that?" Daniel Etim-Effiong played a great villain. I understand that Lizzy has her own life but I was surprised she left Sarah because as we saw with Fred, Dare could have returned. Loved Lizzy, Fred, and Michael. In a one-year update, we saw that Michael and Lizzy became a couple which was cute having the best friends of Sarah and Fred together. The best line to me was Micheal's statement after Fred lied that nothing was wrong with him. He said, "Ahh! Nothing again. In this life, if you can just catch that nothing and kill it, maybe everybody will be happy."
