Heard the chime the moment he crossed the threshold. He looked at all the items in the store. Some were very common magical items, some were uncommon, but he new the good stuff was in the back. Nico didn't care for these things he was here for a special order. He reached the counter and noticed a little red haired girl sitting on top of it. She smiled at him.
"Hello Nicodemus are you looking for Papa?" She asked in a sweet flowery voice. Nico smiled looked her in the eye.
"It's only cause you're so darn cute that I allow you to call me that and yeah is he here." Nico laughed ruffling her hair as she hopped off the counter.
"You betcha I'll go get him for you." She replied as she bounced through the curtain. It was a few minutes later when an older man walked through the curtain. He smiled when he saw Nico.
"Nico my lad it's been a bit how you been?" He asked his voice wasn't deep but it showed his age. Half his head was covered with red hair that was combed to one side. He had a pair of goggles on his head and had a pair of thick lensed glasses on.
"Leon good to see you to glasses getting a little I see." Nico said with a laugh. Leon laughed as well and they exchange a brief hug.
"I know why you're lad and you'll be happy to know it's finally finished. Come on with me to the back and I'll show you." Leon replied as he headed back through the curtain.
Nico followed the back room was larger then it looked there were multiple work benches with all kinds of strange items laid across them. They reached the a large oak wood bench that was located near the back of the building. On the bench laid a rifle it was of similar design to that of his trusted scroll gun he called Doc. He came across Doc one day in a treasure horde after taking down a gang orcs in the southern region of Rijk. It caught his eye right off the bat when he started looking at when the wizard who traveled with him came over and cast a spell to try and identify the item. It was an amazing magical item. It used spell scrolls as ammo; the weapon some how harnessed the magic from the scroll and fired it out the barrel. It would only work with cantrips, first and second level spells. Which was fine cause Nico new some magic being an Eldrich Knight. He named it Doc about a year later when it saved him from a dangerous encounter with a couple of trolls who were robbing people near a bridge. He used a scroll of Fire Bolt and scared them off.
Leon picked up the rifle turning it around it was a thing of beauty almost identical to Doc but longer. Leon handed it over Nico took it and started to look at and examine it better.
"The moment you showed me Doc I was itching for a chance to make a replica." Leon said with pride.
"Leon you've out done yourself. How does it work?" Nico asked.
"Just like Doc opens in the back slide the scroll in and pull the trigger." Leon explained while Nico went through the steps. Leon looked at Nico and smiled.
"What?" Nico questioned.
"She not only will fire scrolls of first and second level like Doc but she'll also fire third and fourth level spell scrolls. I call her Boomstick." Leon smiled as he leaned back against his work bench. Leon then gave Nico a special holster so Nico could store Boomstick and draw it from his back like and archer does with an arrow.
"How much do I owe you Leon?" Nico asked while putting the holster on and storing Boomstick.
"Nothing as long as you make sure everyone knows who built it when they ask." Leon replied. The two shared a laugh and Nico stayed for dinner. He enjoyed the night with his friend as they shared ale and stories to Leon's grandkids.
