"Beyond the Gates" Week 5 & 6 Review

A look back at the most recent two weeks of the immensely popular soap

By Clyde E. DawkinsPublished 10 months ago 3 min read

So with the insane way the NHL season has been going, I've been lazy with the reviews for Beyond the Gates. I'm not behind on the show, though, and it's still crazy good and wild as hell. I said this before: Beyond the Gates is the show that the soap opera genre needed... badly. So with that, this review will cover the last two weeks of the show. Week 5 and Week 6 all wrapped up in a neat little package.

And here we go!

March 24 & 25

I do love Chelsea more and more every time I see her, and I have loved the family bond between her and cousin Kat. Regarding the first two episodes of Week 5, one thing that stood was Chelsea's plan to quit actual modeling and go into a bigger business venture with Kat, as well as the fear of telling Dani, because she has been really pushing Chelsea to model as she did. I was hoping for an alternate dream sequence of sorts where Dani's basically ordering Chelsea to walk the runway; the sequence could see Chelsea as a young woman suffering under her mother's dictatorial nature, but we didn't get that. RhonniRose Mantilla has really been showing out as Chelsea, and as I figured, this show is her acting start. I see some big things from Mantilla after this, and don't be shocked if we see her in Lifetime films--Lifetime's been casting soap actors in their films for years.

March 26 & 27

Good God, Hayley is so damn thirsty for sympathy that she doesn't deserve. She's pathetic. And not just normal levels of pathetic. Hayley is "Edmonton Oilers fan thinking this is the 80s and they'll win a bunch of Cups" pathetic. The way she's going around literally begging to be accepted, begging Jacob, Naomi, and later Chelsea to basically go easy on her and on Bill, is just... oh my God. Love seeing them bury her for it, but Hayley continues to display that victim complex, which could fill up a Canadian football field about 50 times. Ay caramba.

March 28 & 31

Week 5's end saw the fallout from Leslie and Ted's latest encounter, and Leslie demanded moolah, a lot of it, for her silence. Of course, we all know Leslie can't be trusted, and as we would see on March 31, Week 6 kicked off with Bill trying to slither his way into killing that lawsuit against him. My goodness. Naomi shows her strength here, standing up against her father's nonsense, and there is definitely a lot of it for sure.

Case in point:

April 1 & 2

The end of the Tuesday episode had me thinking, "It's very fitting that this aired on April Fools' Day." So Bill and Dani are together at the latter's place, and we see them actually smiling and laughing and reminiscing. Okay. And then that episode ends with them kissing. Say what?! Of course, the following day sees Bill back away and claim Dani initiated all of it (big lie). Bill's visit is really because of Hayley, because of course it is. Hayley bitched up a storm about being shunned and ignored, and she blames "Team Dani." Like the lapdog Bill is, he pleads with Dani to "ease up" on Hayley. Good grief. I swear, when Bill's not busy being a toxic prick, he's being a pet bitch to Hayley. Two qualities that are absolutely nauseating; like being a Golden Knights fan whose second team is the Wild.

April 3 & 4

For the last two episodes of Week 6, I want to center on two characters who are wonderfully awesome, very glamorous, but so immensely naive. First off, Vanessa. Love that girl so much, but how is it that she still has no idea about her hubby's gambling habit? Or the fact that the guy looking for a house for his dear mother is the character owning the club where Doug's been gambling? And then there's Nicole. Where do I start? It's bad enough she's still in the dark about Leslie. Now she's also naive about Joey as well, she was so shocked when Ted told her that the whole thing about Joey's mother was a lie. Part of me hopes that if that moment comes and Nicole finds out, it begins a long road to Nicole becoming a villainess herself somehow. I don't know how, but it could happen. I'm willing to wait as long as possible. Remember: I waited 21 years for a Stanley Cup.

Weeks 5 and 6 of Beyond the Gates were quite delicious in their own way, and here's hoping that Week 7 gives us some good material!
