Bad Monkey Season 2 Now Has A Big Vince Vaughn Story Problem
To Correct Following the Last Rosa Scene in Season 1

Now that season one of Bad Monkey is ended, Rosa's last appearance in the first season of Apple TV+'s dark comedy raises a problem for a possible second season. Since Natalie Martinez was essentially the only character in Bad Monkey season 1 that supported Vince Vaughn's Andrew Yancy throughout the narrative, her role was crucial. Unfortunately, if Bad Monkey gets picked up for a second run of episodes, the conclusion of season 1 poses a challenging barrier to her eventual return.
Even the sequences in the Bahamas were filmed in Florida for Bad Monkey season 1, even though the show is only partially based in the Sunshine State. Similar to Yancy, Martinez's Rosa Campeseno gained international recognition as the plot moved her back and forth between Andros Island and the United States. Season 2 of Bad Monkey has not yet been announced, but given the popularity of showrunner Bill Lawrence's previous Apple TV+ series, such as Ted Lasso and Shrinking, it might happen soon. If this is the case, Rosa will probably be surplus to needs due to Carl Hiaasen's Bad Monkey source material.
Rosa should have stood by her ultimatum to Yancy in the Bad Monkey Season 1 finale.
In "You Don't Want to Kill This Scrumptious Little Puppy," the ninth episode of Bad Monkey season 1, Rosa threatens to break up with Yancy if he doesn't accompany her aboard the plane and away from Andros. Vaughn's character, ever the compulsive investigator, chooses to remain behind and complete the task. Given that both characters had been subtly hinted at having had turbulent romantic lives but find comfort in each other's embrace, the scene is very significant. It's annoying because Rosa forgives Yancy for ignoring her right away at the ending.
Rosa and Yancy are shown reconciling over the phone in the finale, "We're in the Memory-Making Business," which sets up an off-screen sexual reunion. Rosa's departure might have been a significant event that resulted from Yancy's choice. Rosa's dramatic demand is swiftly rendered ineffective instead. The wait for season 2 of Bad Monkey would have been even more beautifully excruciating if the two had truly broken up at the conclusion of the penultimate episode of season 1.
Rosa's next appearance would have been more impactful if she hadn't been absent from Bad Monkey's Season 1 finale.
At first, it appeared as though the Apple TV+ series was ending up and had no plans to return after the mass character leave in Bad Monkey season 1. Rosa's departure from "We're in the Memory-Making Business" at the conclusion, however, further increases the likelihood that season 2 will be based on Carl Hiaasen's 2016 book Razor Girl. The book is the only other novel written by the author that includes Yancy; the first was Bad Monkey (2013). Razor Girl doesn't revisit many of the characters from Bad Monkey, even though it is a sequel.
Rosa will probably not appear in season 2, but it could have worked better if she had been last seen in the penultimate episode of season 1 leaving Yancy in a furious state.
Rosa will probably not appear in season 2, but it could have worked better if she had been last seen in the penultimate episode of season 1 leaving Yancy in a furious state. Even if there isn't a third Hiaasen book to adapt, showrunner Bill Lawrence has stated in an interview with Decider that he has a "three-season arc" in mind. Shortage of source material aside, what's interesting is the return of Natalie Martinez's inevitable reappearance in Bad Monkey season 3. Sadly, the fact that she and Yancy got along well will lessen the effect of her return.
Why Bonnie, Not Rosa, Should Return to Bad Monkey Season 2 as Yancy's Love Interest
The first season of Bad Monkey concludes with a powerful hint that Yancy will start working on another case right away. Therefore, Bad Monkey season 2 will most likely continue where the season 1 finale left off, if and when it airs. Rosa will hardly have left Yancy's house due to the lack of a time jump, therefore it would be pointless to get them back together after she said she needed to do some introspection. On the other hand, Bonnie should once again be Yancy's romantic interest after Bad Monkey returns. Bonnie wants him back, as evidenced by their phone conversation in the finale, and the two have a lot of connection.
Rosa's happy ending is clear, thus it makes natural that she can't marry Vaughn's character just yet, especially since Lawrence's plan is just one-third of the way to being finished. The program can establish a great will they/won't they dynamic between Yancy and Rosa by forcing Yancy and Bonnie to hook up once more. Despite the fact that sitcoms typically employ this storytelling device, Lawrence's experience as the Scrubs producer suggests that he is likely not scared to defy expectations with Bad Monkey.
