Anthony Michael Hall: Did he channel Donald Trump on Psych?

There were some similarities between the actor and the president. Were they a coincidence or on purpose?

Was Donald Trump the inspiration for Harris Trout?

Anthony Michael Hall has had a stellar career that began when he was seven years old. At eleven, he was the little boy known as the Honeycomb Kid in a television commercial. In March 2013, he appeared in three episodes of the final season of the USA drama Psych.

While binge-watching the series, I realized the actor reminded me of President Donald Trump and wondered if he were the inspiration for the character. Trump was not elected to his first term until Psych was off the air, but Hall may have already been a fan and watched The Apprentice.

Psychos will recall that Hall portrayed Harris Trout, a consultant for the Santa Barbara Police Department who was brought in to tighten things up after Chief Karen Vick ( Kristen Nelson) took a six-month leave of absence.

Hall's Psych performance was in the top 10

Trout said he was going to make changes to get the SBPD back in shape, which reminded me of Trump saying he would clean up Washington. The character brought to mind the adage of being "rough, tough, and don't take no stuff which is the manner in which Trump operated on The Apprentice.

Psychos enjoyed Hall as the interim chief of police because his performance was rated number six in a list of the 21 best cameo appearances on Psych.

Hall began his film career portraying a young Rusty Griswald in National Lampoon's Vacation, starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. He is also known for his appearances in The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, Weird Science, Johnny Be Good, and Edward Scissorhands.

The actor, producer, and comedian was also a member of the Brat Pack, a group of talented young actors that included Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy, who also appeared on Psych. Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, and Demi Moore were also Brat Packers.

Did Trump channel Hall?

I have probably viewed the final season of Psych 20 times, but only recently observed the similarities between Anthony Michael Hall and Donald Trump.

When Psych was on the air, Trump was not president, but he was a well-known public figure, and The Apprentice was a popular television show. Was he Hall's inspiration for his Psych character, or perhaps Trump watched Psych and is now channeling Harris Trout?

Perhaps it's just a case of two older White males with similarities. We have all seen people who look alike and have similar personalities. Hall's body build, hair color, the scowl on his face, pointing his finger, and the way he ordered everyone around eerily mimicked the manner in which the 47th president conducts himself in press conferences during his second term.

Was the Apprentice the inspiration?

One thing Harris Trout did that specifically mirrored Donald Trump on The Apprentice (2004-2013) was telling various Santa Barbara Police Department employees, "You're fired, youre' fired, and you're fired." That's what made me pay attention.

Trout was harsh, abrasive, and did not cut anyone any slack. If these episodes had not aired before Trump was elected, one might think Hall was channelling the president's mannerisms. Again, I say that he may have watched The Apprentice and decided to use the mannerisms.

The way Trout squinted his eyes, pointed his finger, and exhibited a "Take no prisoners attitude was just like The Donald. I was curious as to whether he was a Trump supporter and found the following on Wikipedia.

Hall, during a 2020 interview on YouTube, described Republican president Donald Trump as "great" and further stated "I think what he's done for the country is incredible".[85] Hall also suggested that conservative actors get blacklisted in Hollywood and said he had personally witnessed it in practice.

So, Anthony Michael Hall is a conservative who admires Donald Trump. As for the similarities to his Psych performance and the President, that will be left up to each reader's interpretation.
