Soap life happens
Al Caulderon was a beloved member of the Hernandez clan as Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives. His character was quickly integrated into Salem society and interacted with many major cast members. Fans were stunned when the actor left the role after only about a year to join the cast of NBC's Brilliant Minds.
Caulderon walked away in the midst of a front-burner storyline with Greg Rickarrt (Leo Stark) whose previous lover, Dimitri Von Leushner (Peter Porte), has returned to Salem. Dimitri interrupted Leo and Javi's wedding, and now Stark has to choose which man he desires to be with. Jacob Martinez has been hired as the new Javi.
Fans are wondering who Leo will choose in the long run, and many say they don't believe Dimitri has staying power. There is also the possibility that he will be framed for a crime he did not commit and be shipped off to jail again. The consensus is that Javi and Leo will find their way back together and onyl time will tell.

What's in store for Al Caulderon?
DOOL viewer wished Cauleron well, but some noted that television drama shows no longer have the staying power they once did, and wondered if he had made a mistake. Others wondered why he had chosen to leave, but if an explanation was given, I did not see it.
Soap opera cast members, like us all, make decisions. Some work out, and others do not, which is why we should not judge. Still, the longevity of television medical series has changed over the decades.
Medical Center and Marcus Welby, M.D. both aired for seven seasons, from 1969 to 1976. Doogie Houser, M.D. aired for four seasons, from 1989 to 1993. Brilliant Minds has only had two seasons.
Fans of Brilliant Minds expected a hiatus during the Winter Olympics but now it's been revealed that the final six episodes will not air once the Winter Games are over. Nothing is written in stone but what is being implied is that the medical darma has been axed.
Some DOOL viewers expressed concerns about Caulerom leaving an established soap of 60 years for a relatively new series. Others said the fate of daytime TV is not secure and that Caluderon should go with his heart.
Days fans know the soap is up for renewal every two years and there are no guarantees it will remain on the air. Still, those who suspected the NBC drama might not be around for the long haul may be onto something. were onto something.
Brilliant Minds has just been pulled from the NBC lineup. Cauleron's new career is over even as his scenes still air on the Peacock soap.

Al Caulderon's future
On General Hospital, Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne), and Dominic Zampragna (Dante Falconeri) all left the ABC soap for greener pastures but returned to their popular characters. Caulderon cannot do that because his character has been recast.
The actor's previous roles were He's All That, Person of Interest, Detachment, and Hello Again. Soap fans are disappointed that this opportunity did not work out for Al Caulderon and wish him well in his next endeavor. Hopefully his future is bright,
The only way he could return to life in Salem is if Days of Our Lives creates a new character for him. In the meantime, his followers are hoping things will work in his favor.
