Agatha All Along

Ep. 6

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 3 min read

We left off last week with a big reveal, our Teen is in fact Billy Kaplan. Though we all knew that already and they didn’t actually drop his name, we saw him use his powers and the headpiece that appeared on his head looked remarkably like Wanda’s. Agatha and the other witches were thrown into a mud pit and Rio was mysteriously absent. So let’s dive into the 6th episode of this 9 episode series.

OOOF we kept Billy Jewish but still chose a non-Jewish actor to play him…why Marvel? Seriously. You understood the importance to his character to keep him Jewish and then you then chose to shit on that by casting someone who wasn’t Jewish. I genuinely want to know what the thought process behind that decision was. What an astonishingly bad decision.

This is episode 6…of 9 and we are spending the whole episode on Billy? So we are making the same mistake that WandaVision did where they spoon feed you information that you would have already had if you were paying attention. The internet's (and the general public's) inability to draw conclusions is truly embarrassing. We do not need to see the background of every little thing, for every single character. “We need to see what happened in Budapest” no you don’t…that would actually be incredibly stupid. Those of us that have paid attention to the MCU and the series up to this point already knew all of this and we don’t need to be shown useless background. If you couldn’t infer that this kid was Wanda after last week’s episode, then you need padded walls and a helmet, not TV.

We kept Billy gay which is also necessary to his character and story and gives me hope for Young Avengers.

Having Ralph just exposition dumping on Billy was such a poor decision. It was literally 5 minutes of telling Billy THINGS WE ALREADY KNEW. Why are we wasting this much screen time on nothing?

The fact that Agatha’s trial was a 24 minute episode and Billy got 42 minutes of nothing is infuriating to me. It literally didn’t give me any information that I didn’t already know AND it just added nothing to the story. It was a flashback so it didn’t develop Billy’s character at all.

Agatha crawls herself out of the mud and confronts Billy about who he is. He claims not to be like her but he did just kill two witches. So he gets to live with that now. She basically tells him that he found William’s body and decided to take it. That it wasn’t accidental that he is possessing someone. He also seems to be tapped out for power. Agatha, in her very taunting way, realizes that Billy is on the road for his brother. Again something that we already knew. And once again, all roads point to the Children’s Crusade.

Well the coven is now just Agatha and Billy, we still have no sign of where Rio went. The last 4 minutes were the only part worth watching.

The other problem with this episode is also the tone shift. We have been on the road, the whole point of this story is traveling down the road and we are now departing from that. It is a really hard switch that was entirely unnecessary. We wasted 40 minutes of perfectly good screentime. I am a little irritated. This is the worst episode of the series and anyone that acts otherwise is too dumb for general media. I am also mad because this show was doing so good, and just like WandaVision it just takes a dump in the middle of the series. WandaVision recovered and I am just hoping that Agatha can as well.
