Starting a brand new year always leaves you with that nagging feeling , you know the one, you're itching to sink your teeth into a brand-new series to get completely absorbed in. January 2026 is shaping up to be a real powerhouse month for anyone who prefers their anime dubbed with an English voice cast - you'll be in for a treat. With a healthy mix of big-screen blockbusters, edge-of-your-seat social thrillers and some long-awaited conclusions that have finally made their way to home video. So, let check them out.

1. Lupin the III: The Movie – The Immortal Bloodline

  • Release Date: January 4-6, 2026
  • Genres: Action, Adventure, Heist
  • Where to Watch: North American Theaters (GKIDS)

The Immortal Bloodline sparks Lupin and his team into a desperate dash for the island of an enigmatic figure who's hooked on living forever - it's a potentially lucrative heist that's now turned into a heart-stopping high-stakes game of survival. With every step deeper into the island's mysteries, Lupin finds himself battling a foe who's got connections all the way back to blood and twisted experiments, putting his crew through the wringer in brutal set pieces, testing their morals, and cinching tighter the noose around their chances of getting out in one piece.

You can think of this one as the pinnacle of the dark, hard-hitting vibe of the 'Lupin the IIIrd' series, and the film dives in headfirst to intensify Takeshi Koike’s distinctive visual style - edgy character designs, loads of shadows and an action sequence that's all storyboarded out and ready to blow, really putting Lupin and the crew through their paces. The tone here is a no-nonsense, grown up style that's all about just how much strain there is on Lupin’s team - the cracks in their relationships, the shifting alliances, the wacky schemes and outlandish stunts as they go all in against some pretty overwhelming odds.

2. The Darwin Incident

  • Release Date: January 6, 2026
  • Genres: Sci-Fi, Thriller, Seinen
  • Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video

Charlie is a so-called "humanzee" – a half human, half chimpanzee born after a bunch of animal rights activists crack down on an animal testing lab & free a pregnant chimp to carry her unborn to term in the wild. 15 years later, his human foster parents ship him off to regular high school & he's got to navigate all the usual teenager crap, plus people judging him for being inbetween species & the fragile beginnings of a friendship with a girl named Lucy. Meanwhile, the extreme Animal Liberation Alliance is getting more & more out of control & they're dead set on making Charlie a poster child for their cause – dragging him into a whole mess of trouble he never even asked for. The Darwin Incident takes all this & turns it into a fast-moving, seriously unsettling social thriller that forces you to think about what it means to be human, and where you really come from, as Charlie stumbles his way through trying to figure out where he belongs in the world

    3. Love Through a Prism

    • Release Date: January 15, 2026
    • Genres: Historical, Romance, Coming-of-Age
    • Where to Watch: Netflix

If the name Yoko Kamio is ringing a bell, it's because she's the genius behind Boys Over Flowers, and Love Through a Prism is her brand new anime romance that just landed. Set in the early 1900s in London, it follows Lili Ichijoin - a Japanese art student with a pretty big goal on her plate - who enrolls at the ultra-elite Saint Thomas Art Academy with a deal with her parents: be the top student within six months or she's heading back to Japan. Yeah, no pressure there, right? WIT Studio - the folks behind Attack on Titan & Spy x Family - has lent their magical touch to this series, bringing it to life with some seriously stunning period London backdrops, character animation that's as soft as it is detailed and a really lovely use of light and oil painting palettes to give it that authentic turn-of-the-century feel. Love Through a Prism is streaming everywhere on Netflix from January 15th and it's a gorgeous coming of age love story about Lili, who's got a pretty fierce rivalry going on with aristocratic genius Kit Church, and their slow-burning connection as they navigate themes of ambition, class, and the guts it takes to chase your dreams.
