30 Day Anime Challenge
Day 2: Anime you're ashamed you enjoyed

Here we go day 2! On day one I found that I couldn't just pick one anime so I decided for each of these questions I will be doing 5 for every topic.
If you haven't read day one check it out here
This is different from what I am used to blogging, which makes me excited to test my creativity and go back to find the answers to these writing prompts.
Feel free to join me in the comments below! I'd love to hear your opinions too!!

I saw this post on Pinterest and thought it was a fun little challenge to do for the first month of the New Year. I did a challenge similar to this back in 2013 so I am curious to see if my tastes have changed much in the past 10 years.

Day 2 Anime you're ashamed you enjoyed
With this topic, I picked these 5 anime for a few different reasons which I will get into. When it comes to watching anime I can safely say we have all watched an anime that we love but don't tell others to watch it because then they'd know what you are watching. It is funny to me that I can be watching a true crime documentary and talk about it without any feeling but when I love an anime I never talk about it to others unless I know they also love it. Maybe that's just my problem but in any case, this was an easy list to make.

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club
Storyline: Free! revolves around members of a high school boy's swimming team. Four boys-Haruka, Makoto, Nagisa, and Rin-all participated in a swimming tournament shortly before graduating from elementary school and later parted ways. Years later, they reunite when Rin challenges Haruka to a race and wins. Nagisa decides to get Haruka and Makoto back swimming together and add a recruit named Rei to form the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club.
Did I watch this anime as a joke? yes. Did I end up enjoying it? also yes. When Free first came out back in 2013 it was huge. I saw posters and body pillows of the characters everywhere. My friends and I would joke about how this is a shallow show just a show for the female gaze. Well, one night I finished a horror anime and had to watch something happy before sleeping. I scrolled through a list of comedy anime and came across free. Figuring it wouldn't hurt to watch and I pushed play. What I did not expect was for this show to be good. Every time I clicked the next episode I thought "why am I enjoying this?" But to be honest, the story is great, with awesome character writing and development, and it's funny. Now the other seasons and movies weren't out yet so I have only seen season 1 but it is on my list to catch up and see where the story goes.

My dress up darling
Storyline: Traumatized by a childhood incident with a friend who took exception to his love of traditional dolls, doll-artisan hopeful Wakana Gojou passes his days as a loner, finding solace in the home ec room at his high school. To Wakana, people like beautiful Marin Kitagawa, a trendy girl who's always surrounded by a throng of friends, is practically an alien from another world. But when cheerful Marin--never one to be shy--spots Wakana sewing away one day after school, she barges in with the aim of roping her quiet classmate into her secret hobby: cosplay! Will Wakana's wounded heart be able to handle the invasion from this sexy alien?!
I knew very little about this show when I started watching it, but I am always down for a good rom-com anime. So I was shocked at the amount of adult / sexual jokes. It is a really funny anime but also I don't think I'd recommend this anime to anyone unless 100% certain they got that humor. But there is a lot of fanservice in this anime and I wish maybe they would have cut down on that a little, But I understand it has to go with the storyline. I have only heard mixed things about this anime, either people hate it and are offended by them over sexualizing cosplayers and weebs, and the other half ( Me included ) thought this was a fun romance. Either way, I can't believe I enjoyed this anime and I am actually looking forward to season 2.

The promise neverland season 2
Storyline: The older children of Grace Field have managed to escape from the demons trying to eat them and their treacherous caretaker, Isabella, but the outside world is very different from what they envisioned. Every day is a fight for survival as they strive to avoid being killed or recaptured, and the lines between friend and foe become blurred when they learn that not all demons are monsters. Following clues laid out for them by the mysterious William Minerva, Emma and company seek a safe haven for their family, but they only have two years to accomplish their goal before Phil and their youngest siblings back at the farm are shipped out and processed as demon food. In a world of secrets where not all humans can be trusted and not all demons are demonic, how can they be sure their choices are right, or that their actions will actually lead them to the salvation they seek?
Season 1 is one of the most popular anime that's come out in the past few years. I've only heard praise for the show, So I was excited to find out there was a season 2. Before watching season 2 I only heard negative things about it. After loving season 1 I was bummed the following season didn't meet expectations. I was left with the debate of not watching it and keeping the show amazing or watching it and possibly ruining the show for me. Well, curiosity got the best of me and I had to know how it ended, even if it was crappy. Season 1 was much more thrilling, and season 2 was much more fantasy. I was completely surprised by how good season 2 was. Now I haven't read the manga so I didn't have anything to compare it with. The creativity in the world beyond the wall was incredible. I thought that changing our minds from thinking demons are child-eating monsters, to a race like humans who are just trying to survive from leaders abusing their power. The demons were just trying to not transform into mindless monsters, but does that justify their actions? I thought it was a great ending to a great show.

Rent - A - Girlfriend
Storyline: In Japan, the lonely have a new way out — online services that rent out dads, children, and even girlfriends! When Kazuya's true love dumps him, he's just desperate enough to try it, and he's shocked at how cute and sweet his rental girlfriend turns out to be. But she wants to keep their "relationship" a secret, and there's a complication... she goes to his university... and their grandmothers are in the same home... and they live next door to each other?! And Kazuya finds out she's not nearly as nice in "real life"...
The only reason I watched this anime is that a friend recommend it. This is one of the dumbest ideas I have heard for an anime, but I figured what the heck at least I can say I gave it a try. I will not lie this show was frustrating. I was yelling at the screen at one point. The main character is whining and desperate but also a good guy so you kinda root for him. The real main character in my opinion is Chizuru Mizuhara. Headstrong and independent, she not only is going to school, takes care of her grandma, and works as a rented girlfriend, but she also is actively chasing her dream of becoming an actress. The storyline, Oh my. Whoever wrote this made it so addicting that when you start watching it you will not be able to put it down for a second. I cannot wait for season 3 and to see how everything plays out.

Kakegurui
Storyline: Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. You see, when you're the sons and daughters of the wealthiest of the wealthy, it's not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It's reading your opponent, the art of the deal. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer. But when Yumeko Jabami enrolls, she's gonna teach these kids what a high roller really looks like!
What twisted mind wrote this anime? I watched episode one and was in complete shock at how psychological this anime was. After watching episode 1 I didn't think this anime was for me, months later I need some background anime while I painted my room and figured I'd give Kakegurui a second try. After episode 2 I was HOOKED, and this anime only got worse. It messes with your head and brings you to the point of disgust. I ended up binging both seasons and the spin-off season in under a week. Honestly, I have a tough stomach and can handle all kinds of gore and horror but something about this anime made my stomach turn. I would never recommend this anime to anyone but also I would love a friend I could talk to about this anime.

To summarize, I am ashamed I enjoyed a fanservice anime, an overly sexualized anime, an anime everyone else hated, a basic stupid romance, and an anime that screws with your brain on a deep level.
What is an anime you are ashamed you enjoyed? Have you seen any of the anime on my list? I'd love to hear in the comments below
