There are a bunch of shows that are overrated and/or highly talked about. Most of the time, people are chattering about the latest episode of Riverdale and whether or not they binge-watched the entire series of Tiger King. Otherwise, they happily relive their favorite classics such as Full House and Friends. However, not all shows get as much recognition as the ones I mentioned above. In fact, a lot of shows - both old and current - get overlooked. Here are three of my favorite underrated shows along with the reasons why they deserve more attention:
#3. Corneil and Bernie (2003-)

This fun and hilarious cartoon first aired in France in 2003 (Corneil et Bernie), and then in the US a year later (Corneil and Bernie/Watch My Chops). In fact, Corneil and Bernie has aired in various countries, including Canada (Corneil et Bernie), Finland (Kaarlo ja Perttu), and the UK (Corneil and Bernie). The show is about a talking dog named Corneil who is extremely intelligent, and his impulsive and dim-witted dog-sitter Bernie. Corneil doesn't want anyone, not even his wealthy owners John and Beth, to know his secret. Therefore, he makes Bernie promise that he will never tell a soul. The cartoon documents the daily misadventures of the canine-human duo, including but not limited to attempting to fly an airplane after accidentally giving the pilots sleep-inducing pills (the first episode), Corneil sneaking Bernie into a party after he tore up his invitation because he believed Bernie was lying about being invited, and trying to win a survival TV competition titled Jungle Panic. There is never a dull moment while watching this show. Corneil and Bernie deserves to be talked more about because with Bernie's stupidity, the way the two friends disagree on and bicker about everything, and the constant chaos that takes place, this show is bound to make everyone laugh till milk comes out of their noses! In addition, Bernie teaches us how NOT to live our lives by screwing up every step of the way (no offense, Bernie, I still kind of like you). Plus, who wouldn't want a smart, talking dog like Corneil, especially with that killer British accent?
#2. Sonny With a Chance (2009-2011)

A year after charming us with her musical talents in the 2008 movie Camp Rock, Demi Lovato again graced our screens with her presence on the teen sitcom Sonny With A Chance as the titular character Sonny Munroe. This show had it all- fantabulous fashions, humor, drama, and romance. Here's the plot: Sonny Munroe's dreams of being on her all-time favorite comedy So Random came true when she got selected to become a part of the show. Therefore, she moved from her home in Wisconsin to Los Angeles in order to achieve that dream. At first, she felt like she did not belong in the cast (especially since prima donna Tawni was not happy about someone else coming to take her spotlight), but eventually, Sonny felt at home being on So Random. There may have been moments where she and her co-stars jumped on each other, but at the end of the day, they were like family. And don't get me started on Sonny and Chad's transition from enemies/frenemies to lovers. After cancelling Sonny With a Chance in 2011, Disney launched a spin-off of it titled So Random. It was fun and had some of the original sketches like Sally Jenson: Kid Lawyer, but it will never be as great as its predecessor. Not when Demi was absent because of eating disorders, treatment, and other "physical and emotional issues." Sonny With a Chance deserves more recognition because aside from the comedy, romance, and drama, it teaches valuable lessons (like about every Disney show and movie does) and it sheds light on the perks and (most importantly) the hardships of being a celebrity. For instance, in the seventh episode, Tawni was having mean content written about her on a blog called Sharona Knows. Spoiler alert: Tawni does NOT quit So Random.
#1. Kappa Mikey (2006-2008)

Kappa Mikey is like cartoons and anime got married and had a show-baby. Admittedly, I did not pay attention to the differences in animation between Mikey and the other characters until recently and a source also mentioned the character style differences. The plot of Kappa Mikey is like this: Mikey Simon scored a role in the Japanese TV action show LilyMu when he won a scratch-off contest. His journey was lined with trials and tribulations (including Lily's cold, narcissistic demeanor and Ozu's ill temper), and he made countless stupid mistakes along the way, but in the end, everything worked out and he always learned his lesson (well, almost always). He is like the male equivalent of our friend Sonny Munroe, except he's self-centered and dim-witted (but he was known to have a good heart at times, like when he made up for giving the press embarrassing pictures of his castmates by revealing his pimple on national television). This hybrid cartoon and anime show is worthy of attention because like Sonny With A Chance, it portrays what it is like to be in the spotlight, and there is almost always a moral at the end of an episode. Additionally, the anime character reactions (ie. question marks surrounding Ozu's head) and the humor are to die for. Lastly, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who had a childhood crush on Mikey. Who else wishes that he and Mitsuki could've gotten together? Fortunately, according to a 2018 tweet posted by the show's creator Larry Schwarz, there may be a Kappa Mikey reboot! If The Powerpuff Girls and Teen Titans received a reboot, I don't see why this show can't. Hopefully then, Mikey and Mitsuki will marry and start a family.
Well, there you have it. Those are my top 3 shows that deserve to have more rose petals thrown at their feet. Feel free to check them out. Sonny With A Chance is on Disney Plus and YouTube, and Corneil and Bernie plus Kappa Mikey are on YouTube, Dailymotion, WCO.tv (Watch Cartoons Online), and other video-sharing websites and video-streaming apps. However, there are no worries if you would rather pass. Happy binge-watching!
