oday, we’ll be diving into the significant changes and additions to XDefiant's Season One. From crucial updates to Ranked Mode to an exciting new map, Daytona, there’s plenty to cover.

Ranked Mode Updates

Matt Price, System Designer on XDefiant, emphasized that Ranked is a core competitive mode in the game. Although there were some unacceptable bugs and missing features when Ranked launched in Season One, the team has fixed several major issues and plans to add more improvements in future updates.

The major issues that have been fixed include the "Zero RP Bug" that prevented players from receiving RP after a match ended while they were dead, and Charlie-O1 errors that occurred during map voting or mid-game. These issues have been resolved, and monitoring will continue to ensure they don't happen again.

Upcoming updates include a Match Cancellation Event, where if there are not eight players present before the match starts, the game will be canceled without any penalties or RP loss for the remaining players. Additionally, Ranked Mode will now feature Capture the Flag, where the game will be played in two five-minute halves, with the team with the most captures winning the match.

Looking forward to Season One’s future plans, server matchmaking and RP matchmaking ranges will be adjusted to improve fairness and gameplay experience. Faction skill restrictions will be introduced, and additional penalties for players who quit matches will be implemented to enhance competitiveness and stability.

As we look ahead to Season Two, players can expect a Top 500 Leaderboard to showcase the top players’ stats. The team is also working on Ranked Loadouts, allowing players to use unlocked weapons in Ranked without worrying about leveling up attachments.

Daytona Map Preview

The Crew is known for its expansive environment and wide range of beautiful, customizable vehicles, which contrasts with the gameplay of XDefiant. This contrast, however, presented an exciting opportunity for our designers. To put things into perspective, we transformed a portion of the raceway into a vibrant auto expo with Daytona Beach as the backdrop. Players will find themselves running in and out of garages and auto shops, admiring the stunning cars, and racing towards the podium.

The map is designed with a tight center lane, making attacking on Escort a risky endeavor. With fewer places to hide in the middle, team synergy is crucial, requiring well-coordinated abilities and positioning to defend against enemy fire. Defenders can utilize sneaky flanking routes through shops and showcase rooms to apply pressure on objectives. Longer-range encounters typically occur in the center, while close-quarters combat often unfolds on the sidelines.

During the design phase, we initially considered including cars racing along the track in the background but decided against it, as it would be too distracting. After all, players can't afford to take their eyes off the objective for too long. This map is particularly special to us because it's one of our first maps to draw inspiration from a Ubisoft game you might not expect.

Next, Leyla Lacombe gave us a first look at the Daytona map. Daytona is a brand-new linear map developed by Ubisoft Annecy in collaboration with Ivory Tower. The map is set against the backdrop of Daytona Beach, featuring a portion of the racetrack filled with car showrooms and garages, offering various battle scenarios and tactical options.

The map design emphasizes the tight center lane, making attacking in Escort Mode risky. Defenders can utilize flanking routes through shops and showrooms to pressure objectives. The map is a crossover with Ubisoft’s other game The Crew, marking an exciting collaboration, with more surprises planned for future seasons.

Community Developer Q&A

Community Developer Zack Padgett addresses several pressing questions:

Attachments and Customization: New attachments will be introduced in Season Two, with ongoing plans to enhance HUD customization based on player feedback.

Anti-Cheat Measures: The team is actively working to address anti-cheat concerns by monitoring reports and implementing measures to block cheat tools. Over 12,000 players have already been banned, with continuous efforts to maintain game integrity.

24/7 Playlists: Following the success of the Clubhouse 24/7 playlist, Daytona will also feature a dedicated playlist to ensure players can enjoy the new map around the clock.

With these updates and improvements, XDefiant’s Season One is set to deliver a more refined and enjoyable experience. The introduction of the Daytona map and the ongoing enhancements to Ranked Mode and anti-cheat measures highlight the developers’ commitment to addressing player feedback and improving the game.
