2025 Season Review So Far

By Paul JohnPublished 10 months ago 3 min read

HOPE FOR THE SEASON

It started with uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag, as no one was sure if he would continue coaching the team while INEOS conducted its end-of-season review. After a few weeks, the review concluded, and it was decided that Ten Hag would stay for the season, marking the beginning of a new campaign.

With the signing of new players and a last-minute winning goal against Fulham in the first match, fans were hopeful that Manchester United was ready to challenge in the Premier League. However, those hopes quickly came crashing down.

THE STORM

The team lost momentum rapidly, and fans began to doubt its capabilities. Either the team wasn’t playing attractive football, or they were losing back-to-back games. European performances didn’t improve either, as Manchester United kept squandering winning opportunities to settle for draws (ironically, remaining unbeaten). There were calls for Ten Hag to be sacked, but just when the pressure mounted, United would resume their odd habit of winning the next match. However, the tipping point that ultimately ended Ten Hag’s reign was the loss to West Ham. The club pulled the plug on the coach and handed the reins to Van Nistelrooy, who steadied the ship—albeit briefly—until Manchester United appointed Amorim as the next manager.

THE AMORIM HOPE SYNDROME

With the new coach implementing his distinctive 3-4-2-1 formation, there was renewed hope that Manchester United would experience the "new manager effect." The game against Ipswich provided a glimmer of optimism, but months have passed, and the team seems to have worsened compared to when Amorim arrived. (This is not to blame the coach, as he didn’t sign his own players, and the current squad does not fit his system.)

With nine matches remaining in the Premier League and Manchester United hovering dangerously close to relegation, most fans have lost faith in the team’s ability to progress.

With two weeks of international break from club football, and Machester United winning their last two matches, there was hope that the team was adjusting to the new coach way, but for all the excitement, they lost to forest by a lone goal after going behind within 5minutes.

For months now, the team has gotten used to having some false hope of improvement and reccessing backward as fast as they can

However, a glimmer of false hope still lingers in Europe, which i reckon is the only alternative the club has to savage the season from what it is now.

EUROPEAN BOOST AND A CHANCE FOR REDEMPTION

As poor as the team has been this season, they have strangely thrived in Europe, remaining the only unbeaten team in the competition. Despite a rough start, Manchester United qualified from the group stage and won their Round of 16 clash against Real Sociedad, setting up a quarter-final encounter with Lyon. Winning the Europa League would not only secure a trophy but also a spot in next season’s Champions League, offering fans a reason to believe. However, given football’s unpredictability, everything could still come crashing down. Until then, fans have every right to hope.

SUMMARY

While the season has not gone as planned for either the fans or the club, the expectation is to see the season through and allow Amorim to bring in players suited to his system. No one expected him to work miracles overnight. It has been a long and frustrating journey for Manchester United supporters, and with several games left to play, the challenges are far from over. But as the old saying goes, "The sleeping giant will rise someday." Let’s hope that day comes sooner rather than later, and with plans on moving to a new stadium within 5 years, all we have is belief.
