The long-awaited video game based on the Terrifier horror series already has a trial version available on Steam and PS5.

The Terrifier horror movie saga comes to the world of video games with Terrifier: The ARTcade Game, the demo of which can already be found on PS5 and Steam. This version will allow players to immerse themselves in the chaos and brutality of the movie's universe, in a retro-style hit-and-slash gameplay format. The video game, which was presented at the FGS Live From Los Angeles event, provides a cooperative action experience that is inspired by the arcade classics of the 80s and 90s.

In Terrifier: The ARTcade Game, players will have the option to take on the role of Art, the killer disguised as a clown, or other iconic characters from the series. The main idea is quite clear: the heroes must make their way through various scenarios, all designed as sets of an Art-related filming. However, the clown is not present to help with the filming, but to cause as much disorder as possible in the most violent way.

The bloody essence and the black humor characteristic of the movies will be integrated into the game. Players will be able to use a variety of weapons, including chainsaws, machetes and environmental elements, to eliminate their opponents through special moves and bloody endings. In addition, the experience can be lived in cooperative mode with up to four players, allowing you to face story missions, wave-based challenges, boss fights and more as a team.

Gameplay and Features

In this game, players take on the role of Art the Clown, engaging in chaotic, pixelated combat across various movie sets where films about Art are being produced. The gameplay is designed for up to four players in local co-op mode, allowing friends to join forces or compete against each other in a vibrant, pixel-art environment reminiscent of classic arcade games from the late 80s and early 90s.

The game boasts a distinctive pixel art style that captures the essence of the Terrifier films, complete with fluid animations that enhance the action. Players can utilize a variety of weapons, from chainsaws to cleavers, to dispatch enemies in creatively brutal ways. Each stage culminates in challenging boss fights, testing players' skills and strategies.

The game features a chiptune soundtrack that complements its retro vibe, enhancing the overall gaming experience.

The announcement of Terrifier: The ARTcade Game has generated excitement among fans of the franchise and retro gaming enthusiasts alike. While some early impressions suggest that the game may need further refinement before its release, the blend of horror and humor, along with its cooperative gameplay, positions it as a potentially engaging title for fans of the Terrifier series.

Inspiration

The retro aesthetic of Terrifier: The ARTcade Game draws heavily from classic beat-'em-up games of the 1980s and 1990s. This inspiration is evident in several key aspects of the game:

The game employs pixel art and fluid animations, reminiscent of the graphics found in iconic arcade titles from that era. This choice not only captures the essence of the Terrifier films but also evokes nostalgia for players familiar with retro gaming.

Players step into the role of Art the Clown, engaging in chaotic brawls across various movie sets. The gameplay is designed to reflect the over-the-top action typical of classic arcade games, where players can use a variety of weapons and perform brutal finishers. This aligns with the gameplay style of beloved titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men from the arcade scene.

Complementing the visual and gameplay elements, the game features a chiptune soundtrack. This musical style is a hallmark of retro gaming, enhancing the overall nostalgic experience while fitting the dark humor and intense action of the game.

Terrifier: The ARTcade Game is a homage to the retro gaming era, combining pixel art, classic gameplay mechanics, and a chiptune soundtrack to create an engaging experience that resonates with fans of both the horror genre and vintage video games.
