Tarkov is has some issues it needs to work on...
Even though we just talked recently about the wipe and the patch as a whole feeling pretty good, I guess there have been some lingering issues that have crept up in recent days. Some have been resolved (at least that’s what they say), and others are certainly more of a discussion with nuance. What I’m referring to are mainly the bug with players freezing in place, de-sync, and weapon balance. Those are the main points I wanted to tackle today.

Tarkov Patch 12.12.30 - How's it Going?
Well since Patch 12.12.30 has been out for almost 2 weeks, I figured I’d pop in and ask how everyone is doing, and how their wipe is going. So far, it’s been not bad for myself, currently level 22 or 23 I can’t remember. But for the most part still enjoying Tarkov, the wipe and the early game. Although to be fair, we are seeing the beginning of creeping into the mid game, but it’s still early enough. Anyways, so what’s new? Well, a decent amount of stuff. We got the Lighthouse expansion which I haven’t seen because I have neither attempted to go to it, nor have I even played Lighthouse once so far. Sooner or later, I will have to, but I’m trying to stay off that map as much as possible. Let’s just say I have some... grievances with the design of it and how the spawn's work. We got new guns which is always a good time. And the animation changes have been stellar so far. From a third person perspective, they look so good and smooth and as if someone who actually uses firearms daily knows how to run with them. Granted, it wasn’t horrible before, but this feels much more natural and looks good even out to longer distances. Which was my biggest complaint with the old animations; it just looked like you were kind of reloading a gun but not really when afar. But no, these are an awesome addition to the game. And the best part is that a lot of actions can now be performed while running and not stopping. Before, you had to start a reload animation or something before you clicked the sprint button. But now, you can just run and then do whatever it is you need to do. So, a pretty solid positive.

What I hope Arena inadvertently does for Tarkov
With the recent news that Arena mode for Tarkov is not only real, but being tested later on this year, I figured it would make sense to go over some hopes and anticipations for what Arena mode will bring and ultimately what kind of impact it will have on both the game and community as a whole. This is something a lot of us who have been playing for years now have known has been going on in the background. But to be honest, I really never saw it coming to fruition, simply due to the fact that Tarkov has evolved into something I don’t think BSG every really imagined would happen with their game. I’m sure they are happy so many people are playing and enjoying it, but the scale is something I have a strong suspicion they were never ready for. But they have made solid strides to rectify those kinds of issues and are on their way to releasing another sizable and monumentally game-changing patch for Tarkov with patch 12.12.xxx. There’s a lot to be excited for, but to me personally, the new and updated animations are incredible and will make life in the game so much better. Everyone will actually look like they are carrying guns and running around with them as they should. Instead of the strange hand-over-rifle pseudo reload animation they do currently (if you’ve ever looked at a faraway PMC through a scope you know exactly what I’m talking about). But there’s a ton of goodies coming that we also don’t even know about so get hype; it’s going to be a good patch.

With dates ranging from 2102 - 2287, the Fallout universe and timeline can be confusing, especially at first. However, picking a starting game depends on what you're looking for most in the series. For example, a game like Fallout 3 gives an excellent and lengthy intro to both the ideas of the franchise and your character overall. On the other hand, gamers who want an experience of complete backstory creation will find New Vegas gives the most open feeling. This being said, a proper introduction is hard to find with New Vegas since while you can do just about anything any way you want, you have to have an understanding of the games mechanics.

Tarkov Wipes are a Reminder I Suck.
Yup, that’s me, you know; dying in Tarkov. I’m kind of good at that. Every time this game wipes, and we start over, I am reminded how brutal the early game is these days. Everyone has gotten better at the game, there are a lot of ways to optimize the early game for the maximum amount of progression, and the early days of the wipe are still certainly fun. It’s more chaos than anything. Plus, the anticipation of all the new gear and guns helps create the drive to want to level up and use them myself. Not to mention BSG always adds more stuff than the patch notes lists, so it’s a pleasant surprise when we discover things that were added and not mentioned. I am also reminded how bad I actually am at this game. Don’t get me wrong, I have my moments like everyone else where I pop off and make every correct decision, and hit my shots, but most of the time, it’s me being too greedy, ambitious, stubborn, or impatient (ironic considering I am a fairly patient person IRL). Or the case of a classic shitty spawn than has me at the post raid screen at eight seconds into a wipe (that’s happened on more than one occasion sadly). But regardless, this game always kicks my ass every wipe, and to be honest, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I have talked previously about the game changing over the course of its life and getting easier in some regards. But one avenue of the game that has stayed tried and true is being able to smack me around early game and have me overcome the huge early game hurdles. Like some quests and their ability to not be completed upon multiple tries in a row. They end in death, death, and death. Until the universe and lord Nikita himself blesses you with a perfect attempt. Only to get hung up on the next task. I’m sure everyone has that one task that truly just stumps them for a while and really halts and progress from being made. And it doesn’t even have to be tasks related to RNG like the flash drives or gas analyzers. Deliver from the past.... I can’t remember the last time I was able to not only get the document in one go, but then take it to factory and not die there. I always die on either half of the task at least once, so I always dread it. I wonder what other people’s dreaded tasks in this game are. Maybe shooter born in heaven? Maybe the boss killing line of quests? I’d like to hear what other people have for quests that make them go, aw fuck, here we go.

The Dark Souls Series evokes emotions in me only these games can
My history with the Souls series goes way back; to 2012. Maybe 2013, I can’t honestly remember. But it was when on the Xbox 360, games with gold were still fairly new. Where, if you had an Xbox live gold subscription you got free games every month. And one of them happened to be the first Dark Souls game. Interested by the screenshots and what I had meagerly heard online, I wanted to give it a try. So, I got the game and began playing it. And after about 2 and a half hours, I was kind of all set with it. I had chosen the Knight class not knowing about the weight system, so my experience with the game was me slow walking around the Undead Burg, and barely being able to roll out of enemy attacks. I did manage to kill Tarus Demon, but the real enemy that stopped me was the first Baldur Knight that is blocking the knight shield. Stupid enemy to stop playing to, I know. But I was kind of in the mindset of: “I don’t really know what I’m doing so I’ll put it down for now and come back another time”. I remember watching a playthrough and getting some more of the basics down, but I never went back. I guess COD and other games that were hot took my priority. So that was my very first Souls experience; anti-climactic at best. And then March of 2015 happened. And we all know what game released that year.
