The Utility of Overrun in Pathfinder
Combat maneuvers are one of the rules in Pathfinder that seem really cool and useful, but which always seem to fall by the wayside by mid-to-late levels in a game. Whether you focused on tripping enemies but you keep fighting flying monsters, or you built to disarm foes and find yourself fighting colossal beasts with natural weapons, or you're a grappling master who is rendered next-to-useless by freedom of movement, it seems like there's always something rendering this combat option less effective.

Tarkov 1.0 - My Hopes for the Future
The more we hear about what’s on the horizon for Tarkov, the more it gets my mind racing at looking towards the future; what lies ahead for not only the players but BSG as well. This game has been in development for so long, it’s crazy to look back and see how far everything has come. Multiple times throughout the games life I expressed my own personal concerns as to the overall direction and ambition of Nikita’s vision. I don’t want to hate on it; in fact, I kind of envy it. He has such an incredible eye for what he wants his game to be, and if he can see it all the way to the end, I have nothing but the absolute highest respect for him. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t have a lot of personal concerns for actually having this vision and everything he wants come to fruition. As sad as it makes me say, the longer I play this game, the more of its holes and glaring red flags I notice as well. Granted, that comes with the territory of any game or hobby you enjoy. I don’t want to blindly support what they do and be under the impression that everything will just work out in the end, nor do I want to be a doomer and say it will all fail before it gets released. I’m always trying to be somewhere in between; torn at what can go right, bringing us one step closer to that final goal, and what can’t go oh so horribly wrong. I think this mentality has begun to kind of normalize across veterans of the game. People who have years under their belt, and who have really seen this game grow and evolve over time. Overall, I’m genuinely curious where every lands about not only where we stand currently with Tarkov, but how they feel about everything we’ve seen for the future too. In regards to the immediate future, we have a pretty good idea as to what’s coming this year.

Bad Habits in Tarkov
Tarkov is already a difficult game in of itself. With so many different mechanics that revolve around the game, it makes sense that from time to time, we might slip up and make a mistake. Okay, a lot of mistakes if you’re me. I have a lot of bad habits in Tarkov; I suppose it’s a by-product of playing so many different games over the years, especially other shooters. It can be something as simple as not hitting an easy shot, but most of the time, again, like Tarkov, the habits are a little more nuanced. And get me killed more often as a result. I wanted to talk about some of those habits and just basically ramble a little bit about how stupid they are and how often they get me head eyes’d sometimes. Because at the end of the day, Tarkov is a hard game; whether you’ve played for just a few days, or even a few years. We all get our assess kick in Tarkov from time to time; so, it’s good to reflect on those mistakes and habits to try and remedy them for the future.

What Happened to Covert Movement?
Tarkov’s combat systems are engaging and complex enough that there is a plethora of ways to interact with them. This goes for both fighting AI enemies, as well as other players who pose more of a threat in general. You can run in head first, and just shoot whatever you see. If it moves, you kill it. A very powerful and viable way to play. You can try engage with range, or from different defensive positions; the list is sizeable. But one way to play Tarkov that has changed over the years, is playing sneaky. Sneaky Tarkov can be extremely gratifying when executed correctly. There are many different angles to it; being in the right place at the right time, having an angle or an opportunity that you can recognize quickly and capitalize on, and the ability to not freak out if there are a lot of footsteps around you making all kinds of noise and you feel overwhelmed. Playing sneaky, at least for me personally, always gets my heart racing more than just running around. Because that buildup of anticipation; knowing that depending on how you handle it, you may kill a juiced-out player, or mess it up and lose your opportunity at some free loot.

Night Vision is better than ever in Tarkov
Night raids are something honestly kind of special in Tarkov. There aren’t a lot of first-person shooters out there, that focus mainly on gameplay and shooting guns, and can simultaneously be a horror game at the same time. It’s funny, because a ton of people I know, myself included call Tarkov an unintentional horror game. Which is true! This game has many different kinds of moments where you will get scared for one reason or another. But most of them, will occur during the nighttime and night raids. Or, at the very least, areas that are way too dark for you to reasonably see anything in front of you, unless you have some form of illumination. I advocated a while ago that we need to engage with night raids more often in Tarkov; it’s a chance to play the game in a completely different style and pace. I love doing night factory raids; going in with nothing but a light armor and pistol and just killing some scavs for some time. I don’t normally wear NVG’s because of Factory’s expansion brought a lot more lights into the map so they’re not as necessary, but they can be still useful if you shoot out all the lights. Of course, the NODs are more useful on the outdoors maps. There are four different types of night vision you can purchase or find in the world.
