Sir, You Are Being Hunted Review

So, with “Sir you are being hunted”, I first discovered this game several years ago with a YouTube channel and they were playing the game with two people. At first, I thought this game was really cute and charming and it's like “Oh, you have to be stealthy and you have to avoid the robots”, so I thought that that's all there was to it.

But when I played this game back in 2018, I realized that this was way more complex than I had expected it to be. In “Sir you are being hunted”, you are a gentleman and you have tried to do a technological advancement in an experiment and in that experiment it went wrong so you ended up being in a world where there are robots and you need to get pieces of your experiment back in order to bring you back to your own world and your own time.

But in the mean time, as being told by your butler, the entire time robots are looking for humans and the game goes through day and night cycles. So when I started playing, it's straight into the game right off the bat. The tension and anxiety was really high for me and also you have limited inventory. When I say limited, it means that you have to play a game of Tetris in order to make all of what you have fit into your inventory. As well as I didn't realize it was a literal survival game because you have to feed yourself make sure that you have water and that was something that I was not expecting. That added on a level of complexity that made this game even more stressful but the game is fun.

You go around looking for supplies, go to different houses, and you do have a defense against the robots. If you could take them down, find a weapon, and you find the bullets for the weapon you can take down a robot but that's definitely not the main objective. Because doing that is very difficult but if you do take down a robot, you do get a better gun. But the thing about guns, just like in a zombie game, if you fire a gun it makes noise and it attracts other robots to your location and the robots do search for you and they do look for any signs that you're around.

So, during the day has its own challenges but at night I would say it's just a little bit easier to deal with the robots because they have glowing red eyes and those eyes scan for your person. At night, you're able to see their line of sight and with the line of sight you're able to sneak behind them if they're not able to see you. But one thing they have is a robot in a hot air balloon just off the ground that's able to see you from above, so you have to avoid that one as well. If you get spotted by the hot air balloon robot you get notified by the other robots that they know where you are and that they see you so with one thing leading to another.

I will say and warn that the game does have a save feature. You can save your current location, but there's no save points in which you can restart if you get killed. If you get killed you have to start over the game and that's both the challenge and the fun of the game: there is no playthrough that will be alike. Sometimes you might want to be more stealthy, sometimes you might want to be more aggressive; I do not suggest being more aggressive because personally that is a bad idea. But I will say that “Sir you are being hunted” is definitely worth the play and I'm surprised that they haven't had more games like this especially considering that this game was something of a success when it came to the indie community. But in my opinion it's worth playing even if it's just for a little bit at a time. Play until you die (not literally), but definitely give it a give it a shot and you will have a lot of tension and a lot of fear of being caught.
