Maneater: Truth Quest Review

Maneater - Truth Quest investigates conspiracy theories and hoaxes

By Polina GreyfieldPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

Maneater - Truth Quest investigates conspiracy theories and hoaxes. This DLC is the first to add on to the core game and it's quite bizarre. Maneater was not grounded but had a sense reality. Truth Quest is a place where things can go wrong quickly and often. It's a docuseries that it imitates. There isn't much explanation. You're likely to be familiar with the tasks you'll have to do. Truth Quest is entertaining and offers more Maneater. However, the invariability leaves one wanting more.

Editor's note:This review began before Tripwire Interactive's tweet supporting Texas' ban on abortions within six weeks. For the benefit of Tripwire's developers, it was decided to continue the review. John Gibson was the author at the time this article was written.Tripwire's former CEO, has resigned.Since sharing that he is against women.

Truth Quest continues right where Maneater left off. Chris Parnell voices Trip Westhaven once again. The "Maneater TV Show" was canceled following the events at the base game. Trip learns about the Naval Wildlife Organization (NWO) and starts a new show called Truth Quest to investigate it. You'll see ad readings for his online-only show. These are hilarious parodies of the things you hear and see every day. As Trip continues to investigate, there is a gradual disintegration in Trip's mental faculties. The game doesn't really explain what you are actually after, whether it was intentional or not. Trip Westhaven claims it's a bioweapon. The shark you play as is trying to catch something organic. I'm curious what incentives the shark is being given. The whole idea is so implausible, it's best to not think about it too much.

Plover Island is a new place to explore. Its codename is "Site P", you will even find a water-based Area 51.TrueDespite what we have been told, it is Area 51. Although it is a large area of the map, it is still much smaller than Port Clovis. It is almost always lit at night, and there are many references and phenomena. It looks and feels just like a Halloween special on your favorite TV program.Truth QuestYou have good reasons to go back to the original map.

Truth Quest has a lot to offer. Radio towers are one of the mission objectives. To take down these towers, you must master the tailwhip skill. Maneater never asked you to use it, but now it is a necessity. To use the tailwhip effectively you will need to have the military enemies throw a projectile in the water. You must grab the projectile before it explodes and throw it at your tower. Although it takes some time to get used to, it becomes second nature very quickly. The new nuclear breath blast that is Godzilla-like makes this easier. For each section of the map, you will need to kill ten sailors at once. They make it monotonous to kill groups of enemies. You almost wonder why time trials weren't included in the original game. However, the time trials are a Shamu jumping show disguised. There is no fish reward for what they ask. These are difficult tasks and remind me of Superman64. You will find familiar collectibles like license plates and food caches. These are not difficult to find, but they can be hard to find. The addition of Questors is a fun and difficult find. They are tinfoil-wearing, shiny people that can't be identified by sonar. You only have to hear them spew nonsense.

Once you have reached the Infamy rank for Plover Island, there are five new bounty bosses that you can fight. As you progress to higher tiers you will start to notice new enemy vehicles such as armored speed boats and helicopters. This changes the dynamics of these fights. You can now engage with new, mutated Apex Predators. These new Apex Predators are more challenging and exciting to fight than ever before because they have been imbued mainly with radiation. When it comes to the final boss fight prepare for pain. It is everything you would expect a final fight to be. The summons all the apex predators you have fought to join them. It is a long and difficult battle but it is satisfying to win. You will feel like an apex legendary killer.

There's so much to see and do. But there is still plenty of evolution for your megalodon. You can now work your way up from level 30 to 40, which was previously a cap. At level 35 you can access a new slot for your organs. You can use either one of the passive abilities or one of the new abilities that you have not been able to unlock by defeating bounty bosses. This content is approximately one-third the size of the base game and takes around four hours to roll credits. This DLC will take you another few hours to reach 100%.

ManeaterTruthQuest review4

Maneater continues to look fantastic in terms of performance. This is a shame, as it locks to 60fps even with VSync disabled. It would be nice if the framerate could be unlocked or had higher thresholds. It feels a bit more buggy than usual. Many enemies would launch into the air, or get stuck under the map. The camera is very obnoxious and wild, focusing on geometry. It's beautiful and bright.

ManeaterTruthQuest review5

Truth Quest has no purpose and offers little incentive to solve this mystery. It is easy to digest due to its short duration. Although it does reuse a lot from the base game, it doesn't provide enough excitement. Truth Quest offers more Maneater if that's what you want. Although it lacks the charm that made Maneater so unique, this DLC still fits the game's tone. Maneater - Truth Quest may be an unnecessary add-on but it offers enough fun things to satisfy most.
