Dice Legacy has a lot to be loved

By Polina GreyfieldPublished 4 years ago 5 min read

Dice Legacy has a lot to be loved. You'll love the diversity of the ringworld, from the residents who are dice-based to the vastness and beauty that surrounds you. Now you have to survive the coming harsh winter. DESTINYbit has created a charming game with serious consequences. Every loss and defeat was a reason to be excited about the next run. Dice Legacy has been one of the most innovative and creative city builders.

DiceLegacy review1

You arrive by boat and embark with five peasants who hope to survive and thrive. Orange-colored dice represent your peasants. Each die represents a worker and you can have only twelve. Dice Legacy aims to unravel the mysteries of this stunning, rotating ringworld. You'll need to survive the seasons along the way, just like the survival elements in Frostpunk. If all of your dice are lost or uncontrolled riots occur due to poor management, it's over.

Although it isn't a roguelike, it will require you to restart a lot. At the very least, until you are proficient enough. It takes a lot luck and RNG to make each run successful. However, it is never frustrating. Everything here is procedural, from the terrain to the discoveries you make on your journey. There will be failures, and they will come often. But I did learn a lot. Each new step made me more efficient and faster. In the beginning, there was only one scenario and one ruler. You will unlock new playstyles and pathways as you unlock each ruler. There are six different scenarios to choose from, and six rulers that you can unlock. This site has dozens of content.

You must roll the die for the correct icon in order to play. You will have to continue rolling the dice until you find what you need or want. The durability of your dice is only a measure of the individual's health. Their durability will reach zero and they will die. Although they can be restored to their health by using a kitchen, they only need one meal. These buildings, which are usually pre-constructed like mines, have a high degree of durability. They tend to wear down over time. Although things aren't that diverse initially, eventually you will be managing five types of die: citizens, soldiers and merchants. Each role has its own purpose. It's not difficult, even though there are many layers. You can build a house and then convert any of the two peasant dice into another type. Your die will become greyed every time you use them until you roll again. This silent turn is great for avoiding overusing good rolls or great rolls and injecting strategy.

To grow and expand, you will need to build new buildings. Each task has a timer, so you can see how long it takes to finish. To operate, buildings use dice and/or other resources. Sometimes it takes just one or three resources to make something work. There are seven resources you can collect and manage: food and wood, stone, iron, wheat and ale. The way that the resources flow into the buildings creates a cyclical effect that, if managed well, will prevent stock levels from falling. It is satisfying to see all the pieces work together.

Dice can be frozen when winter comes. You can prevent this by using a steam generator or freezing them in a local tavern. You can throw away frozen die, but it will affect the morale of the people under your control. They will continue to prosper if they are kept alive. The game is concerned about two seasons: winter and summer. You should build farms during the warmer months to grow wheat crops, and collect herbs. While wheat can be used to make food throughout the year, it is not possible to grow crops during winter. It is best to have a stockpile. It's great that Legacy has some level of realism that is easy to grasp.

Knowledge is the key to unlocking the technology tree. You can do this by making peasants citizens at the school. Then they can be used in workshops to learn. The tech tree provides many useful improvements such as increasing the output of gathering wood or unlocking your ability to make an empowering table. The council makes decisions throughout the game. They are likely to only be beneficial to one group at a given time. One example is the edict that will give wheat at every beginning of each season. This is only for peasants. Each decision you make is difficult because not everything is good, but it can also cause frustration for others. This is Legacy's strength.

To expand your ringworld to new areas, you will need to build your district halls at the border. Once completed, you will push the borders further out. You will be in direct contact with encampments or worse. This is where you are introduced to combat. Your technological advances and innovations will be rejected by the ones who came before you. You will be attacked and raided often. You'll be attacked and raided often. To fend off these attacks, you will need to roll a blade. Also, build towers that can spot them coming.

There are many types of enemies. There are raiders who come from nearby encampments. Sometimes, the raiders can be your own people because they are unhappy. Then there are the "The Others", a mysterious group of people. It's a thrilling experience to learn more about them during the game. This is Legacy's driving force.

DiceLegacy review5

There are many pillars to the game. You can enable dice to have greater durability and strength. You are creating your future once you have crafted your die. Finally, you can ascend into the heavens to use your die for future runs. There are many systems in play and the game is well-advised to show them all to you when they are most useful.

There were some issues with the readability of buildings in the game. They don't stand out very well. In one instance, I lost an iron mine that was behind a building. It was thought that it had degraded and disintegrated. But it was just hidden behind the steam generator I had built earlier. Although it doesn't happen very often, the camera rotates with the world and is fixed so that this happens a few times. It is important to plan carefully where your buildings are located. The developers are still working on an improved tutorial and encyclopedia. However, there are plenty of tooltips that will help you understand almost every aspect of the game. You will only learn a lot through trial and error and hard work.

DiceLegacy review6

The mystery surrounding the ringworld is a constant until you uncover the truth. Dice Legacy can be challenging, exciting, and rewarding with its randomness and system. There is no one way to play dice. You will never settle for any one method. DESTINYbit has been one of the most successful city builders in the year. Dice Legacy has endless replayability that you will fall in love with.
