5 Best Shooters on Steam
Time for some target practice

First-person shooters are a popular genre in the gaming world. There are numerous great options available on the market. With that in mind, I figured I'd share what I think are some of the best ones.
Let's get into it!
5. Call of Duty (2003 - Present)

Call of Duty is one of the most popular shooter franchises on the market. The series has been around since 2003, and started out as a WWII shooter series meant to rival the Battlefield series. Storylines have changed over the years, going from World War II to the Cold War and then to more futuristic plotlines.
I've played a couple of the games in the series, and I've loved every one of them so far.
4. Sniper: Ghost Warrior (2010 - 2021)

Sniper: Ghost Warrior is a tactical first-person shooter that was released in 2010, and was technically the second game in a series that began with a little game from 2008 called Sniper: Art of Victory. The first game follows Sgt. Tyler Wells, a sniper sent to a South American island called Isle Trueno to assassinate a General named Vasquez.
That's kind of the gist of all the games, you play as a sniper who has to accomplish pretty complicated assignments.
3. Crysis (2007 - 2013)

The Crysis Trilogy is a series of sci-fi military shooters that sees you playing as a member of an elite strike team fighting against alien forces. Interestingly, the series forces you to pick your battles - literally. Why? Well, you have limited ammunition, and the time to kill (the speed at which you can die in combat) is very low.
Enemy patrols are sometimes much larger than you can work with on your own. The fact that you're all by your lonesome forces you to be extra cautious. Often, a single kill can get you into trouble by alerting other soldiers; this means you sometimes have to figure out a way to bypass combat completely.
2. Sniper Elite (2005 - Present)

Sniper Elite, this is a title I discussed recently. The series is a third-person stealth/shooter title. You work as a sniper, sneaking around behind enemy lines towards the end of WWII. The series is known for having fairly realistic shooting mechanics.
Honorable Mentions

Now, there are a few other games that I feel should get some attention.
Medal of Honor (2010)
2010's Medal of Honor is a first-person shooter set in Afghanistan that follows Navy and Ranger units as they fight against the Taliban in the war on terror.
Battlefield (2002 - Present)
The Battlefield series has been around for 24 years now, and it built a strong reputation, releasing games based on historical events and retaining a degree of realism and historical accuracy (which was a major selling point). There have been more than a few stumbling blocks, including the disaster that was 2018's Battlefield V, but the fanbase is loyal and ever-growing.
Players have a bit of freedom in how they approach an objective - although it isn't much - which makes things interesting and earns the Battlefield games a mention.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (2001 - Present)

Novelist Tom Clancy is best known for his espionage thrillers (including The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger). Gamers, however, are probably more familiar with him through the games to which his name is attached. The most recognizable one, I think, is the Splinter Cell series, but Clancy was also connected to the Rainbow Six series.
Now, last year, over the course of the Steam winter sale, I picked up a fair few games, including some entries from Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series. For those who don't know, the Ghost Recon series is a first-person tactical shooter series where players lead a specialized team - the titular Ghosts - to complete complicated missions.
What sets this series apart is its use of real-time tactics. You manage a team in the mission, giving orders and moving your guys into place. Any mistakes and you risk losing a teammate or failing your mission.
Final Thoughts: Time to Hit the Range
Well, I guess that's everything. I hope these games provide ample entertainment. Now get your butts to the shooting range, come on, double-time!
Thanks for reading!
