Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Weapon Camos: Tips for Faster Unlocks

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 introduces one of the best overhauls to the weapon camo progression system the series has seen in years. For experienced players, camouflages have always been a sign of dedication, mastery, and perseverance. With BO7, Treyarch has revamped the system to reduce random grinding, reward broader weapon skills, and make skill camo more attainable after completing the challenge. The new system creates a smoother progression path that is more flexible, satisfying, and respectful of players' time.

Reduced requirements for headshots in multiplayer

One of the better changes concerns camouflage challenges in multiplayer mode. Normally, players had to complete a series of specific tasks for each weapon – often including many headshots – to unlock the lower and advanced camouflages. In BO6, for example, some weapon classes had to achieve 100 headshots to unlock the first level of camouflage progression.

In BO7 Bot Lobby, this number has been reduced to 80 headshots, making the job a little easier from the start. This way, players who like to try out different attachments, progression styles, and daring roles can catch up on their camouflages without having to perform the aforementioned repetitive tasks over and over again.

Easier camouflage challenges in Zombies mode

The simplification isn't limited to multiplayer mode. Zombies mode, popular with players who prefer customized progression, has also been significantly optimized. As in multiplayer mode, camouflage challenges in Zombies previously required a lot of repetition in completed titles. However, BO7 has significantly reduced these requirements, making it easier for players to obtain camouflages while retaining the chaotic, strategic, wave-based action the mode is known for.

This change makes Zombies an additional perk for leveling weapons, especially for players who prefer PvE gameplay or simply want an additional arctic progression experience.

A new approach to skill camos

What really sets BO7 apart, however, is the new Master Camo unlock system. Previously, players had to complete every single challenge for each weapon to reach the highest level of skill camouflage – often requiring dozens or even hundreds of hours of grinding.

BO7 now changes this fundamentally. Once you reach the “Master” rank for 30 different weapons, the highest level skill camouflages – such as Singularity, Origin, or additional endgame designs – are automatically unlocked. You no longer have to repeat tedious, weapon-specific challenges for each weapon.

More freedom and customization options for players

This change has a major impact on how players progress. First, you can personalize your gaming experience: you can focus on the weapons you really enjoy, rather than forcing yourself to use equipment that doesn't suit your style. Second, it rewards versatility—it showcases achievements across different weapon types instead of obsessively focusing on a single one. Third, it makes progress easier to achieve without players having to invest hundreds of hours to unlock a specific camo.

Unified progress across all game modes

This new policy also increases replayability across different game modes. Since BO7 uses a unified progression system, players can switch between multiplayer, zombies, and similar modes while working toward the above-mentioned camouflage goals. This means that every match, every kill, and every claim toward comprehensive weapon mastery counts, regardless of which mode you play.

In many ways, the revamped camouflage system reflects a larger architectural mindset in Black Ops 7: it makes the game more accessible without neglecting the grind or the achievements of progression. The lower requirements for headshots, the simpler Zombies challenges, and the automatic unlock for master-level camouflages all seem to contribute to creating a more modern, player-focused experience. The hard work hasn't completely disappeared—but it has been transformed into something that's more fun, more flexible, and much more rewarding.
