What's The Face Of Horror And Why You Should Support It
If you aren't familiar, the Face of Horror is a yearly competition that helps raise money for a very worthy cause.
The 2024 Face of Horror
Why is supporting the Face of Horror competition a good thing? For that matter, why is supporting me in the Face of Horror competition a good thing? We will delve into both.
The Face of Horror challenge, or competition, comes with a very interesting opportunity for one lucky winner. Yes, there's prize money, but that's not as interesting as the event the winner gets to be a part of. The winner will go head-to-head with Kane Hodder as part of a photo shoot for Rue Morgue Magazine.
As if meeting the man behind the mask isn't enough, the idea of the photoshoot sounds like a lot of fun. But wait, there's more. There's the trip to Los Angeles to do the shoot, a chance at a paranormal investigation with Kane Hodder, and a chance at 13,000 in cold hard cash.
This is the second year I've entered and followed the contest, and by god, will do whatever it takes to finish in the circle of horrors. It's been held between September and November, coinciding with the time of year we see more darkness and heading into the Halloween season.
There are two ways that someone can get votes. The participants can get votes from supporters once daily, or they can find supporters who can purchase additional votes.
Why Would Anyone Buy Additional Votes
Beneath the dark and paranormal undertones of a challenge designed to pit someone up against the man behind the mask of Hollywood's most prolific slasher character is what the competition also supports.
The competition will raise money for the Starlight Children's Foundation. According to their site, in 2023, Starlight was able to make a difference to more than 3 Million hospitalized kids and their families at more than 700 hospitals and care centers across the US.
Kids Hospitalized With Cancer
This year, unlike last year, the competition meant more than it did during my first entry. The idea of children who are in hospitals without being able to go home is horrifying. Kids with cancer are the scariest thing part of dealing with the uncured disease. When an adult gets a cancer diagnosis it is tragic, but we have gotten a chance to live.
There is a lot to be said for the belief that happy kids heal better. Hospitals, even for adults, are scary places. They are a place that's needed at your worst. So, what the Starlight Foundation does means a lot to some of us in the world.
Why I'm Supporting The Starlight Foundation
If you're a new reader or follower you may not be aware of how cancer has affected my life. This year, especially, my views have changed. After losing two parents to the dreaded disease, it came back to haunt me. That's not me playing with the terms because of the Face of Horror.
In February I was advised by a doctor that I needed to call a lawyer and start tidying up my final affairs. Cancer not only caught me, but it caught me and was sneaky enough that the first three doctors I saw had nothing promising to say. I heard a round of I'm sorry, and my condolences.
Imagine being a child, or that child's parents, and hearing those sentiments before that child ever gets a chance to live their lives.
At 52 it was a shocking and scary revelation. Stage IV with an advanced metastatic spread. Studies indicating people with test results better than mine had less than two years without a miracle. Life appeared to be over.
Then I see kids with cancer. Being robbed of some years after living a life, getting a chance to love, to learn, to make mistakes, and to see some of the world, is tragic. But with half my life under my belt, I see what's happening to children as a universal injustice.

Why I Hope to Win and Shed Light On the Foundation
Cancer treatment is expensive and grueling. It tears the body apart as it tries to kill the thing inside of us that's trying to kill us. That's the most basic way to describe cancer treatment.
Meeting Kane Hodder would be an insane adventure. I'd love to have that adventure while I'm still able. Nobody knows what the future holds when you have cancer. We fight cancer and sometimes we're robbed of the experience of living.
The 13,000 would be nice to have. But the chance to meet the man behind the mask would be awesome and I'd definitely have one hell of a story to tell at the end of the trip to Los Angeles, the photo shoot, and the paranormal (ghost hunt).
Vote if you'd like to help out, but consider checking out the Starlight Foundation. It's a worthwhile cause, and even if I'm not the 2024 Face of Horror winner, I'll continue to support the Starlight Foundation the best way I can.

Excellent! ❤️ My poppa died of leukemia. It was so sad. I was with him when he passed over. Holding his hand saying, "Daddy I love you so much. Don't go."
