The Two Men Abducted by Aliens Whilst Fishing
Was their encounter an elaborate hoax or genuine?

Throughout the years, many people have reported alien abductions. Many of them are dismissed as fantasies or hallucinations. But, when three people have the same experience, people start to question whether there is any substance to the rumours.
It all happened on a quiet October night when two men were fishing at an abandoned boat launch. Rather than catching any fish, they were caught and transported to a strange ship.
Night Fishing
On 11 October 1973, Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker Jr. went fishing together. The sun started falling, and the two settled in for night fishing.
Charles went to get some more bait when he heard a zipping sound. Looking up, he saw a flashing blue light. Calvin, beside him, heard the same sound and turned around. Both men observed a thirty-foot-long object with a little dome on top.
The ship hovered just above the ground, allowing three creatures to emerge. The two fishermen found themselves paralysed. The creatures reached out with pincer-like claws and pulled them towards the ship.
Alien Encounter
Charles stated that the two men were subjected to a physical exam by something that looked like a giant eye. Throughout the exam, they remembered hearing a constant mechanical buzzing.
With the exam completed, they were dropped back off precisely where they had started. Charles remembers seeing Calvin standing up with his arms raised to the sky, screaming. The pair composed themselves and ran for help.
They arrived at the sheriff's department in Pascagoula, Mississippi, frantic. They informed the authorities that aliens had abducted them. Each had a puncture wound in their arm.
Investigation
The first reaction of the police was to believe the two men were drunk. Having taken their initial statement, the police left the room, leaving the recorder secretly taping. They were convinced they would catch the two men laughing about the hoax once they left the room. They were in for a surprise.
The two men kept talking about what they had seen and how scared they were. They never once broke from the story they had told. The police asked them to take a polygraph test, which they both passed.
We did everything we knew to try to break their stories. If they were lying to me, they should be in Hollywood. - Jackson County Sheriff's Capt. Glen Ryder told The Post in 1975.
Fame & Ridicule
Overnight, the story became national news. The scared fisherman had cameras forced into their faces wherever they went. A UFO investigator flew down to interview them and said that their story checked out.
However, not everyone was so kind. Some stated that Charles had an episode of sleep paralysis and hallucinations, and the easily suggestible Calvin had gone along with the story.
This scepticism did not stop the area of Pascagoula from becoming flooded with believers who, wrapped in aluminium foil, would sit on cars waiting for visitors from another planet.
Charles, who was forty-two then, found himself a minor celebrity being invited onto the Johnny Carson show. In 1983, he released a book about his encounter.
Calvin, who was only eighteen, did not manage so well. He states that he was so frightened the aliens had infected him with something he had bathed in bleach. He skipped town, and when people identified him, he would work elsewhere.
True or Hoax
If the pair made the story up for financial gain, it did not work. Charles, who died in 2011 of a heart attack, died poor. Calvin later admitted to paying the older man's electric bill on more than one occasion.
The story would be seen as primarily a hoax until 2019. The city started to discuss plans for a marker to be placed in the area. This prompted several witnesses to say they had seen the flying object on the night in question.
One was Maria Blair, who stated that the story was true. She was reluctant to come forward at the time due to the ridicule the two men suffered. She stated that not standing up for the pair for forty-five years had bothered her, so she had come forward.
Calvin passed away in 2023 after a long battle with kidney cancer. His abduction is now considered one of the best-documented cases of alien abduction.
So what do you think? Did the pair meet aliens, or was it an elaborate hoax?
