The Strangest Things to Find Under a Bed
Beds don't just have dust bunnies under them

Children have the best imaginations of anyone and can come up with many unusual and even scary things that don't even exist. Were you a child afraid of the boogie man? Well, in this modern world, a little boy screamed for his Mommy in the middle of the night. She was prepared to comfort him and tell him there was no such thing as a boogie man. She wondered how he had heard about this because he was only six and she didn't let him watch any horror movies. However, what her son was afraid of left her speechless. He was afraid that there might be terrorists under his bed. Here are some true stories about what people have actually found under the bed they were sleeping on.
Sleeping With Crocodiles
In 2013, Guy Whittall was at the Humani Ranch in Zimbabwe, Africa. Later even though he had a scare he became the director of this family-owned lodge. Being very tired Whittal fell into bed and slept through for a whole eight hours. He felt fresh and relaxed the next day but had no idea that there had been something sleeping under the bed along with him during the night. He got up and went to have breakfast with his roommate. Of course, he did not have any reason to look under the bed. While he was out of his room he heard the horrific screams of a maid and hurried back to his room. There under the bed he had slept on with a 330-pound crocodile. The poor creature was probably wondering what all the fuss was about because he had been sleeping there peacefully. Help arrived and the crocodile was returned to the Humani Chigwidi Dam. After this incident, I am sure that Whittal always checked or peeped under the bed before retiring at night.
Dead Bodies in Mattresses
How many Hollywood movies especially “Psycho” have not made us afraid of creepy motels and owners like Norman Bates? It was fortunate that the room where the terrible discovery was made was not presently occupied. In the heat of July 2003, the cleaning crew working at a motel in Kansas City, Missouri made the discovery of a dead body stuffed under a mattress. An awful smell had filled the motel room and the cleaning crew lifted up the mattress and there was the body. Of course, that gave them a great fright but what could make anyone's hair stand on end is the fact that before this dead body started to give off a bad smell there must have been at least a number of overnight guests sleeping right on top of it.
Loud Explosions
How would you like to be awakened by a loud explosion? Well in July 2011 in Guatemala City a woman named Inocenta Hernandez was woken up by a loud explosion in the morning. At first, she thought it was something that had happened outside. It was very odd that a neighbor informed her that the loud noise had actually come from inside of her house. What she discovered was a real horror. Directly beneath her bed with a 3-foot-wide, 40-foot-deep sinkhole. Back in 2007, in the same neighborhood, a 330-foot-deep sinkhole left three people dead. Hernandez was lucky she was all right and none of her grandchildren had tried to hide under her bed. Sinkholes form because of natural underground erosions and the collapse is always very sudden. I would change the location of my bedroom right away if possible.
A Stranger Under the Bed
Definitely, this next incident could turn one's hair white. In March of 2015 in the Cayman Drive area of Palm Springs, Florida there was a stranger who was knocking on people's doors. A neighbor saw this strange man walking to the rear of a residence and called the police. At the residence in question the owner, a 61-year-old woman was looking for her cats. Thinking they might be hiding under the bed she reached beneath the bed to come in contact with the stranger. The same man who had been knocking on doors was now under her bed. Of course, the woman had the shock of her life while her cats were making themselves scarce knowing there was a stranger about. It was lucky for her that the neighbor had called the police.
Escape Hatch Beneath the Bed
What would you expect to find under the bed of a guy who sold methamphetamine? Well, when the police arrested Shane Cox who had been under surveillance they went to check out his house. The search included a bomb squad and bomb-sniffing canines to see if the house contained explosive devices and perhaps booby traps. They found methamphetamine and gunpowder. One of the most unusual things that they discovered was a six-foot-deep hole beneath a tanning bed. The hole led to two tunnels and a trap door underneath a living room chair. In this way, Cox was able to come and go and hide from the law. Actually, I wouldn’t have minded purchasing that house. If you see unwanted guests approaching your house just leave by the secret passageway.
Rediscovering a Violin
One of the very best violins is the Vieuxtemps Guarneri. This is a 274-year-old violin that counts as the most valuable in the world. At present, it has a price of an estimated $16 million. This violin was placed in the hands of world-renowned violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, who had this violin on loan for the rest of her life. This incredible instrument dates from 1741 and was named after its most famous owner, Henri Vieuxtemps, the leading 19th-century Belgian virtuoso and composer. He loved his violin so much that he wanted to be buried with it. During its long and varied history, this violin has been played by such masters as Itzhak Perlman and Yehudi Menuhin. Afterward, it was stored under a bed by its current owner for five decades. It has been referred to as the “Mona Lisa” of violins. Finally, this violin came out into the light again and Meyers produced the violin to be enjoyed by new generations.
Crazed Woman Under the Bed
Late one night in July of 2014 a couple Brian and his wife, Bridget returned to their Seattle, Washington condo. They discovered a robbery attempt as their clothing was scattered about and their electronics were piled up on their bed. The strangest thing of all was that the soles of 20 pairs of shoes had been removed. However, nothing was stolen except for $50 in cash and they found a purse with a 27-year-old woman’s ID card. At this point, I would be trying to remember exactly what it was that I had drunk and eaten that very night. Well, the couple called the police and they didn’t even find any fingerprints. A Seattle website said that the scene looked sort of like some poltergeists had been having fun. The police left and had to return when the couple called a second time. This time the couple thought they heard sounds coming from underneath their bed. Under the bed, the police discovered a meth-addicted woman who had been hiding there for hours with a kitchen knife trying to deconstruct the box springs. She was a tiny, fragile woman who was not in her full faculties and so obviously needed help. Later on, a hypodermic needle was found in the bed sheets and locks of golden hair throughout their condo.
With that I bid you goodnight and before you retire – Have you checked under your bed?
