TikTok is now a different world.

At least in terms of how most people use it. What used to be a fun and creative way to enjoy and enhance one’s artistic qualities has turned into something else. The latest shift? The new promotion feature of TikTok. Now, TrueView videos offer an opportunity to promote your clips, rather than solely on the result of creative content. And guess what? Enough cash lets you buy thousands of followers in a matter of days. But let’s ask the question—for everyone to just pay their way up, what then for the soul of the platform?

How TikTok Promotion Works Fast Followers for a Fee

TikTok’s promotion tool is straightforward: Purchase followers to get more views, likes, and followers. On paper, it is an exact way that many creators were excited to use to expand their endeavors. But in practice, it resembles nothing so much as a protection racket. I know homeowners with boring, ordinary treadmill exercise videos become viral overnight merely because they invested some money into the app. It’s as if, TikTok concluding that what’s the point of creating when money can buy its way through? And that’s the problem. If followers can be purchased, then rather than waiting for them to come in, it begs the question of what is genuine anymore? Everything says it is an organisation like a club—where more money means more friends

The Trap: Why It’s Easy to Get Hooked

Here’s the thing, social media is a validation-based platform and doesn’t understand anything else. So it’s likes, follow, views—you get all these shots of dopamine. And TikTok knows this. And when you start to pay for promotion, and the numbers grow — it is pleasant. You begin to think, maybe something is being done here. But once you start, it quickly becomes almost impossible to stop. The high doesn’t last, and you will feel the pressure to continue to pay to be current. For creators, it can easily become a trap – to grow, and attract attention using money, rather than content. It’s a vicious cycle and at the end of it all you are left with no choice but to pay TikTok in order to be discovered.

Is this the end of authentic TikTok?

TikTok was always about the unexpected. Even the most mundane lame post from any person in any corner of the globe turned into something funny or clever and could spread like wildfire overnight. And that was the lure, it felt like real life. However, this new promotion feature in the app is changing the app ecosystem on the platform altogether. Now, if you are not ready to pay, then your articles end up at the bottom of the promoted posts pile. But if everyone is paying their way up, what becomes of the creative minds who invested time into establishing their loyalty?

I guess, gradually, it is as if TikTok is slowly becoming less of what it used to be – a vibrant platfrom full of young talents and diverse, creative content. And honestly? That could be the start of its downfall. If people begin to feel that one can succeed on the platform only if they can invest a lot of money, people get tired and switch to something else.

The Price Paid for Purchase of Fame

Many people, and especially the young generation generations, will find it exciting to buy followers. But let me tell you this; the feeling of emptiness that comes with thousands of fake followers will not fill your heart with joy. They are just symbols that appear on a cell phone or a computer. This philosophy explains that success is not about numbers; it is about finding the audience and focusing on building a real relationship with them. And when people figure out that their ‘achievement,’ which is something they purchased, they end up frustrated and unsatisfied.

As for TikTok?

They need to tread carefully. They are working on this pay-to-play model and they might risk losing what made this platform unique in the first place. It is necessary to point out that people are tired of consuming content that has been manufactured for readers, viewers, or listeners, and could have easily been bought through a credit card.

So, before you throw money at TikTok, ask yourself: What am I really chasing? Because if it is just a number then it must be the wrong game you are playing in life.

What do you think?

Is TikTok‘s new feature useful that it drastically improves the app or the first step that causes the app to lose its popularity? Please feel free to give me some feedback—you are welcome to share your impressions with me.
