Ghost In a Machine — How Many Fake & AI Accounts Haunt This Platform?
The Shocking Reality You Need to Know.
Are they or Aren't they?
There I was scrolling through my followers list on this platform and surly most of you all have done this before. Whether you’re looking for inspiration or checking out funky profile pictures it’s hard not to pick up on a subtle hint that something is amiss and the thought as to “how many of these accounts are actually real?”must have come up at least once.
How bad can it be?
Well it’s bad, very bad. The digital world is full of fakes — from bots to full-on AI-generated profiles and this platform is no exception. Recent analyses suggest that a surprisingly high percentage of content on platforms like this one might not be written by human hands.
Some studies estimate that around 40–50% of posts might be flagged as AI-generated.
But what about the accounts themselves?
Though exact numbers remain a mystery and doing some research myself, the evidence points to a worrying trend. With sophisticated bots and AI tools getting cheaper and easier to use, many fake accounts have slipped through the cracks. They flood the site with crap. Anything from low-quality comments to purposefully spammy content, pushing the real voices like you and myself into the background.
There’s even reports of fake or AI profiles being featured by major Publications and some even enjoying getting there articles Boosted…
Multiple reports admitted that the sheer volume of AI-generated work is overwhelming and the difference between real and fake is getting so close to each other that it soon will be rendering detection software useless.
In many cases, these accounts barely engage or interact — receiving little more than a few claps or comments . But still, they skew the metrics used to measure popularity and engagement.
This issue at hand isn’t just about numbers; it’s about credibility.
For readers and writers it comes down to this, that if we know that nearly half the content might be from non-human or fake sources shakes our trust in what we see online. And while this platforms management insists that its filters and all of its human curators keep the worst of the “AI slop” at bay, the challenge is only growing.
AI-generated content is still human in a way (or at least in my opinion) we must remember that it's us who create and give AI instructions, and edit the final result. It doesn’t just work on its own—humans guide it. But the problem comes in when AI is used unethically. It can pull information from other sources without giving credit, sometimes even copying content without permission. It also lacks real emotion and personal experience, making the writing feel a bit hollow. Another issue is that it can take jobs away from real writers, replacing unique voices with automated text. If people use AI without being honest about it, it can also break trust with readers. While AI is a great tool, it shouldn’t be a shortcut to avoid effort or originality. The best way to use it is alongside human creativity, with clear disclosure and respect for those who put in real work.u
In a world where authenticity is becoming rare, the fight against fake and AI-generated accounts is more critical than ever. Why is there no AI being made to combat this? Why is there no AI policing to uphold and inforce misuse off the system? Like RoboCop…
So next time you click on a story, please take a moment to wonder: Is this truly a human’s work, or just another product of the ghost in the machine?
Let’s stay curious, ask questions, and demand transparency in our digital spaces.
All the best and stay blessed.
