Never Again

Until Again

Top Story - July 2025
A Frenchman wept as German soldiers marched into Paris on June 14, 1940.

Never again. That's what they said. Never again. The greatest generation to have ever lived died for nothing. Throughout our lives, we have heard those two words:

Never again.

We have been taught the horrors of the past and the sacrifices they made for us. From weekly rations to civilian boats at Dunkirk, we have heard their stories, understood their pain, and admired their strength.

In fear of it happening again, we made sure to never forget their sacrifices and the millions of lives that were lost to evil, and yet here we are.

We fixated too much on the past, romanticised it even, to the point where nostalgia for a past we never lived, has ensured its repetition. As a direct consequence of this, we have failed our ancestors. We have failed those who never saw the liberation, and the ones who died fighting while doing so.

How have we let evil like this rise again? When such a heavy price has already been paid? Are we not ashamed of ourselves?

Never again... until again.

So, where do we go from here? What will you do?

Will you bend under the weight of the darkness that is consuming our world? Or will you stand up and fight for a better version of it?

Because here's the secret: the greatest generation to have ever lived lives within us. They are a part of us, our very being. Everything we are and have, we owe it to them for our freedom.

These dark times we have allowed to happen. As we sit at home in front of the world, watching it all unfold. Laughing at memes, making sarcastic remarks, pretending like it will not affect us.

Like some violent tempest far away on the horizon, slowly creeping towards us, but we choose to ignore the warning signs, because I've a 12-hour shift tomorrow to cover part of my rent at a shared house.

And while the pieces of the chessboard move around us, we, as the people, must set aside our differences and make amends to come together to defeat our common enemy. Only then will we hold all the playing cards.

This is not about which side of the political spectrum you stand, which flag you fly or what god you worship. This is about humanity and what is morally right.

Once we pull back the curtain and the grand illusion breaks, our new world will be built by healers, builders, protectors and nurturers. Not men in business suits constructing dodgy deals in the shadows.

Be wary of the lion, tigers and bears.

This is not love and light. This is war. And we are in it now as we speak. And just like our ancestors, I will spit in the faces of those in servitude to false idols and dance on the graves of those who dared think they had such an authority to play the game of God.

I will never surrender to the darkness, even if it beats me to within an inch of my life. I understand that this is far bigger than ego and self-worth. Faith and nationalities. Far, far bigger.

I beg you to remember this: when fear consumes you, laugh. For Christ's sake, laugh, dance, sing. These days will pass, but until then:

Protect all children, defend your homes, nurture your communities and build together.

Death to fascism. Death to all neo-nazis. Death to dictators and tyrants.

Free the world!

Powerful and chilling words. A reminder that ‘never again’ is more than history. It’s a responsibility we must live by today.

“ Protect all children, defend your homes, nurture your communities and build together”- I like how there’s a call to action here, in the small ways we can care for others 🙏🏽 Feelsl Iike all we can do right now amid such chaos! Well-said Rosie 👏🏾

  • I enjoyed your insights and well thought out words. I find your last line turned the tide in a strange direction-- I found myself thinking instead of a death wish that might be reborn-- i prefer dissipation as an end to fascism, dictators, tyrants- let their actions just become meaningless fringe events that disappear like hot air into nothingness without causing harm.

Terrible things happening and I fear it will get way worse before it gets better 💔

  • Fierce, urgent, and deeply human. A rallying cry that echoes across generations. Thank you for writing what needed to be said.

I've seen that photo before, and there is an old quote worth noting: The only thing I've learned from history is that people do not learn from history.

How easily we seem to forget the past and blindly make the same mistakes we were taught to avoid

We are in the midst of dark times indeed when our own government turns against disabled people and the government’s of the world allow Concentration camps in Gaza. “This war like any war is a spiritual war one fought against oppression and the opposite of live, evil. I think it’s been that way since the beginning. Maybe without the mirror of life, death and suffering there wouldn’t be as much good. Which seems to be honed and wrought in this hell, this physical plane. But to have Nirvana it’s necessary to be the light in the darkness. Sorry about the rant but I think conditions have always been similar if not the same. We are always trying to free ourselves.

  • Thank you for writing this. My friend in the San Fernando Valley here in California was arrested by ICE. He is Hispanic but a US Citizen. He is released so my other friend told me. We are living in dark times. I am right in the middle of it here. My brother in Texas is a full blown MAGA NAZI. Our late dad was a WW11 veteran. My brother had a horrible response to my friend being kidnapped. My brother wants to let us libs know he celebrated July 4 feeling great that he is not going to be controlled by the libs agenda. He was okay with all the arrest here in California. He hates LA and California. My dad is turning over in his grave. Oh yeah, my brother 2000 miles from me is happy about the arrest cause it pays us back for my kind who arrested Christian parents to force their kids into a liberal agenda. He says I or my kind was out to kill his kind. He's mentally ill lost it. I breathe in Breathe out slowly
