Humans Will Be Isolated in the Future Without Knowledge of AI

If humans don't learn to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools, you will be the first to be left out of the future world.

In 2021, the daughter of Tino Bao - a famous Taiwanese musician - passed away from bone marrow failure at the age of 22. Bao devoted all his efforts to "revive" his child through AI by recreating her image and voice to converse.

Last March, after thousands of trials and failures, Bao posted a video on social media in which he chatted with his late daughter to wish his wife a happy birthday, even singing her a happy birthday song.

Bao's daughter is recreated by AI to be able to sing, dance and talk to Bao through a mobile phone.

In the future, our exposure to AI is inevitable due to the rapid increase in the number of tools it creates

"My motivation was to use technology to recreate my daughter's 'incomplete' life. Before that, in the process of importing her voice, video and photo data, I discovered that I had very little data about her.

The process of using AI to recreate my daughter was a “healing” journey for me, even though I had previously suffered thousands of failures due to my daughter’s voice data not being real.

I believe that using the term "resurrection" is a mistake, people cannot be "resurrected" after death. I simply recreated all the data of my daughter's life into a symbolic machine on her behalf to soothe her soul ," Bao said.

According to Bao, the biggest challenge was that his daughter's voice could not be similar to real life and he had to adjust it to be as similar as possible.

This dad has incorporated his daughter's digital voice into the smart assistant on his phone.

His connection to the “digital child” has sparked debate on Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo.

It's a popular app in China - he's faced backlash for using artificial intelligence to replace his daughter in an attempt to help him escape his misery.

Some Sina Weibo users worry that this "virtual daughter" will only aggravate Bao's pain, making it impossible for him to overcome the loss of his loved one.

However, the musician said the process helped him learn to accept pain in a rational way.

"Watching videos of her when she was alive brought more sadness than joy. I recreated her with AI to make her look beautiful, to make her sing and talk to me happily. Artificial intelligence helps me interact with my daughter in the same space and time, and it brings me a lot of comfort.

Talking to my virtual daughter through AI cannot actually compare to the image of my daughter when she was alive. However, in the world of technology, she is forever young and beautiful, which makes up for my regret that her life was short," Bao explained.

He also criticized those who use AI to create digital versions of people for illegal purposes or without the consent of the deceased's family.

National Assembly Delegate, Director of Gui Da Law Firm (Guizhou Province, Southwest China) said that we need to change to approach or manage life in a more open and comprehensive way with this AI technology.

“It is encouraging that people are experimenting with technological innovations to address pain and loss, but we need to strengthen regulatory frameworks if new technologies are to develop into an industry.”

In the future, Bao said he plans to engage in charity work to reassure people that AI itself is not scary or inherently flawed, but that the problem is humans misusing AI.

“I want to promote this technology to those seeking psychological comfort, encouraging others to approach it with a positive mindset. We can coexist peacefully with both pain and AI. In the future, AI technology will continue to expand and develop,” he added.
