Foods that have a long shelf life.

Honey - Because of its high sugar content and low moisture. Honey is a versatile and healthy food item that has a long shelf life and never spoils. It's a great natural sweetener and can be used in various recipes. Additionally, honey has several health benefits, including antimicrobial properties and antioxidant effects.

Honey won't actually go bad or start to crystallize over time, despite the fact that it may do so. Its low water content of 17% which is too low to support the majority of bacteria and fungi—makes it extremely resistant to spoiling. The honey functions as its own preservative since it dehydrates germs.

Sugar - If kept out of light and heat in an airtight container, both white and brown sugar can be used indefinitely. Bacteria cannot survive in sugar when it is stored properly. Sugar, on the other hand, can become hard and clumpy and even a source of food for germs if moisture is allowed to combine with it. Try putting your sugar in a vacuum-sealable container for long-term storage.

Vinegar - The acidic nature of vinegar prevents the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms, making it a safe option to consume even after the expiry date. Vinegar is a useful ingredient in many recipes and has a long shelf life. Additionally, vinegar has several health benefits, including reducing blood sugar levels and improving digestion. Whereas other vinegars (such as wine vinegars or apple cider vinegars) may change in color and appearance over time, properly preserved white vinegar will remain unchanged and safe for consumption.

Salt - As a mineral, salt does not expire, although it may clump together over time, it's always safe to consume. It is an essential mineral that adds flavor to various dishes. Although it's recommended to consume salt in moderation, as excessive consumption can have negative health effects. One of the oldest techniques for food preservation is to salt food. Because it is so good at drying out things, including bacteria, salt that is properly preserved will stay useful for years. Nonetheless, you may anticipate that the salt will lose some of its potency if it is fortified or contains additional compounds like iodine. (It will, however, continue to be useful for a many years.)

Rice - It's a versatile ingredient that can be used in various dishes and provides energy and nutrition. White rice is mentioned in particular since brown rice gradually spoils because of its higher oil content. But, white rice will remain fresh indefinitely if properly stored in an airtight container!

Vanilla Extract - A well-known preservative, and has a relatively high alcohol level (about 40%) and is present in pure vanilla extract. Pure vanilla extract lasts for almost an eternity in a bottle! Although imitation vanilla also contains other substances that contribute to its reduced shelf life, it does contain alcohol.

Soy Sauce - Although salt is a wonderful preservative, soy sauce contains a lot of it. So long as your soy sauce is securely packed and kept in a dark cabinet, it will continue to be completely useable.

Dried beans - It can be stored for years without spoiling. They just require soaking and cooking before consumption. They go well with a variety of foods, such as soups, stews, and salads. Beans are a wonderful food to store up on because they are a great source of protein, fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. If kept in a dry, cool environment, dried beans will remain good for a very long time.

Maple syrup – A delicious natural sweetener, maple syrup has a high sugar content and low moisture, which makes it an ideal food that never expires. It's a great addition to various dishes, including pancakes, waffles, and desserts. Maple syrup can be kept in your cupboard if unopened, for as long as you like, but once it's been opened, it needs to be carefully stored to be useable. After opening, put your maple syrup in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. Pure maple syrup shouldn't go bad even after being kept in this fashion for years.

Powdered milk - It is a non-perishable food item that can last for years when stored properly. Powdered milk is a useful ingredient in various recipes, including baked goods and sauces. Additionally, it's a good source of calcium and protein. To further extend its shelf life, store it in a cool location below 60°F, or throw it in your freezer to keep it fresh permanently! Although it's not a perfect alternative to fresh milk, reconstituted powdered milk is nonetheless handy to have on hand.

Dried fruit - Such as raisins, dates, and apricots, have a long shelf life and are a great source of fiber and nutrients. Dried fruits are a convenient snack and can be used in various recipes, including baked goods and trail mix.

Nuts - Such as almonds, walnuts, and peanuts, have a long shelf life and are a great source of healthy fats, protein, and fiber. They're a convenient snack and can be used in various recipes, including salads and baked goods.

Pop Corn - While microwave popcorn bags have a limited shelf life, loose popcorn kernels can stay practically indefinitely. You can enjoy popcorn whenever you choose (even years from now!) by keeping them in an airtight container in a cool, dry location.

Overall, these foods are great options to have in your pantry as they have a long shelf life and can be used in various recipes. It's important to store them properly to ensure their quality and safety.

It goes without saying that there are other foods that have a long shelf life. It's wise to keep in mind that items that are dried, very salty, very sweet, or kept in vinegar will typically have a very lengthy shelf life.
