As the world entered into this generation’s first pandemic era, it also sprouted thousands of speculations, misconceptions, and misinformation. For most of us, it was all completely new. Nobody knew what to expect or how it will turn out. The dreaded pandemic was spreading like wildfire. It didn’t look like this ordeal was ever going to come to an end. However, it was finally brought to control thanks to the vaccines developed by our esteemed scientists.

The journey of the COVID-19 vaccine development was actually very difficult and it was nearly impossible to develop a vaccine in just one year. But with an investment of billions of dollars and tireless hard works of our pharmaceutical companies, it was made possible. When the vaccines cleared the clinical trials, it brought a ray of hope. Our government and the World Health Organization even made sure that the vaccine reaches to every human on this planet. It was declared safe to use by numerous health organizations. But this life saving vaccine wasn’t fully accepted in our society. Since it was all new, many speculations came up with the vaccine. One of the most common one was does the COVID-19 vaccine cause hair loss!

The truth is all the popular researches and clinical trials show that hair loss is NOT a common side effect of any of the COVID-19 vaccines. Yes, there are some side effects of the vaccine like fever, fatigue, diarrhoea, etc. but hair loss is certainly not one of those. The number of people reporting hair loss is very small. The chances of you getting hair loss because of COVID-19 vaccine are quite low. But then again a few questions arise. Why are some people experiencing hair loss? Will it happen to me too? Should I really be taking the vaccine?

Well, it has been established by now that people, who do get COVID-19, face hair loss problem after recovery. As per American Academy of Dermatology Association, it is a common occurrence that a few months after having a high fever or recovering from an illness, people see noticeable hair loss. Since many people experience mild to high fever among other symptoms after taking the COVID-19 vaccine, it may be the reason for the falling hair. This process is actually called hair shedding, not hair loss. The medical term for this type of hair shedding is telogen effluvium. A fever or illness can force more hairs into the shedding phase. Fortunately, these hairs will grow right back. This phenomenon is also extremely rare. The chances of you suffering hair loss due to COVID-19 vaccine is even less than you getting hit by a car on the road. It is not something that should stress you because stress is definitely going to shed more hairs.

Hair loss is a very common problem and in America alone 1 out of 5 people are losing their hair. To get it confused as a side effect of the COVID-19 vaccine is wrong in so many ways. Many humans are pessimistic in nature. They tend to see a problem in everything. They always speculate the worst possibilities. Thankfully, science is based on proof, not on speculations. When it comes to COVID-19, speculations aren’t going to help, vaccine is. COVID-19 is a common crisis for the entire humankind. No one is safe until everyone is safe. We all have learnt the hard way that only with proper carefulness and vaccine; we will be able to beat COVID-19. So, when it comes to deciding whether to take the vaccine or not; it’s really a no-brainer. Trust your doctors and play your role in keeping your community safe. Go and take the vaccine.
