Why is Ascendant so much important in Astrology

This article will be about the meaning of Ascendant or rising sign. I have seen many people saying it is our mask, how others see us, not who we are, but who we would like others to see, and this is very wrong! So I will try to explain how much important Ascendant and its degree truly is.

So Your Rising Sign, Ascendant, is the Zodiac Sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment tour birth. So your soul decided to be born in this life time at the exact degree of one sign, rising sign. That is why it is very important to know exact moment of your birth and birth place.

Ascendant is the moment of our first breath. It gives us the blueprint of our life. It is a moment when our soul came into this world to live the life of its rising sign, to walk the path of the rising sign. It is our soul journey in this life time.

Ascendant also gives us the ruler of the birth chart, and that is the ruler of our rising sign. By its placement, aspects we will see how much difficult or easy our path will be. Ascendant is the 1st house and by Ascendant we calculate the rest of the houses. That is very important. It defines your career, relationships, friends and organizations, home life, style of communication, everything. Fox example if you are Scorpio rising your 10th house will probably be Leo if you don’t have interceptions. That would suggest that with Leo MC you are born leader.

Ruled by the Sun, you are confident in your abilities and you enjoy being in the spotlight. Acting, entertaining, motivational speaking, running a company, even politics would interest you as a career choice. Keep in mind that this is general, without the planets placements, aspect, condition of the planet.

In this example 4th house is in Aquarius meaning that with Uranus on the IC, your childhood wasn’t the standard. Anything weird, eccentric was expectant, and you had the freedom of being yourself. At home, it’s important that you are surrounded by information and new technology, technological gadgets. You home life may not have been very stable when growing up, and you had to deal with some family situations. You probably seem cold to you family members, detached, needing your own space, independence. You become more innovative and original, as you get older.

Ascendant degree sets the angular houses degree. That is also very important to look at your home, relationships and career life.

Any transiting planets hitting the exact degree of your Ascendant will have a huge impact on your life, especially slow moving planets like Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. By Crossing the Ascendant the planet will impact 4th house of home and family, 7th house of relationships, 10th house of career. So basically the most important areas of your life will change, as you change by energy of the planet crossing your Ascendant.

Taking it a level deeper.

Also the degree of Ascendant is very important.Let’s take my chart example. Scorpio rising at 11 degrees. So 6th, 8th house and 12th house ruler become malefic planets. That means mars Mercury and Venus are my malefic planets and whatever house they fall into those planets will bring the energy of 6th 8th or 12th house.But if Mercury ruler of my 8th house is in the Ascendant degree in my case 11 degrees, in its exaltation sign Virgo it becomes beneficial.When Mercury is a beneficial planet in a chart for me it means that i will be very friendly, easy going and talkative and I will have success in finance and trading.

Also Mars natural malefic and ruler of my 6th house, it is placed on my Ascendant in first it becomes beneficial. Or in 11 degree of Capricorn. Just being my ruler neutralizes Mars malefic energy. So in my Mars ruling time period I may have health issues but I will overcome them because of the strength Ascendant is giving to Mars.

But not all Scorpio rising will have the same most beneficial and malefic planets. Because not all will have these planets at the degree of Ascendant. So for some if Venus is at 5 degrees then it wont bring so much trouble. If my Venus is in the ascendant degree 11 degrees in Virgo where it is debilitated then it becomes strong malefic planet for me.

These degrees and planets condition is important when we look at protection year, or in Vedic astrology mahadasha period.

Also for beneficial planets, if Sun ruler of 10th house is within 2 degrees orb of the rising sign and it is placed in Pisces it becomes the most potent beneficial in my chart.

So basically the Ascendant degree gives the power to the planets, making them most beneficial or malefic.

Also by transits to the Ascendant or its ruling planet we can see what kind of period to expect.

If beneficial planet is for example making a conjunction ,sex-tile or a trine to Ascendant or its ruler we are going to see improvement and good results both personally and in the area (house ) where the Ascendant ruler is placed.

So as you can see there is so much to the ascendant then the superficial mask, clothes,how we want others to perceive us. It represents US and how we interacts with the world,how we respond to our environment, how we act and react, and much much more.
