I love our beautiful blue planet. She is full of mystery and wonder. Sometimes, I find myself staring off into space and taking my mind into the far reaches of an infinite universe. Sometimes, I press my mind’s eye into the bottom of the sea and imagine large predators amongst vivid corals . It is hard to comprehend the genius of so many scientists who have discovered everything from how to accurately land a rover on Mars to the complexities of microscopic life. Science is my guidebook. It is the study that strives to explain the natural world. Astrology does not meet my definition of science. Zodiac signs are as legitimate as unicorns and leprechauns. So how do I write an article about my Zodiac sign? This is not going to be easy.
Let us start with defining a constellation. They are stars millions of miles apart. Hundreds of years ago, stars within the same field of view became a big connect-the-dots game. If you throw in imagination and few hundred more made-up lines a complex image is born. That sounds absurd. Now, lets assign twelve images to different days of the year. But not to calendar months, lets mix it up a little. Brilliant. My sign is cancer and shaped like a crab. WTH?
Element: Water. I can identify with water. I feel a literal sense of serenity when surrounded by water. This is an element of emotion. I love genealogy and genetics. I feel drawn to learning about my ancestry and passing down the stories of my family tree. Classic trait of a cancer.
Quality: Cardinal. Cancer marks the beginning of summer. It is also a sign of the soul and emotional well being. I am religious. I strive to practice compassionate care in the field of medicine.
Ruler Moon: The moon represents a subconscious world. This is tied to love, emotions, and the feelings of belonging and support. It embodies helping those when they are vulnerable. It also represents a mother in the universe and symbolizes the comfort of being at home. This sounds good until you think about the fact that the moon is just a giant rock orbiting our planet.
I give up. I don’t want to be called a cancer or a crab. I’m just not in the mood.
I want each calendar month to have its own sign. No weird overlapping dates. I don’t like crabs. I want to be a dolphin. They are cuter. I am definitely not a cancer. I would rather be called just about anything else. Maybe, I prefer to be called a vaccination. That seems appropriate in a time when vaccinations for COVID-19 are hopefully paving the way to help reconnect people and rejuvenate businesses. Yep, that’s nicer. I’m a happy vaccination dolphin. Surely this could make a cool logo, tattoo, or bumper sticker.
Now I need stars..ok pick any dang three you want and it’s a freaking dolphin leaping out of the waves with a gorgeous sunset behind it.
How do I relate to the other signs?
Its simple. I respect you until you loose my respect by hurting me.
I want to fight for you, because I want everyone treated with equality.
If you want to be a dolphin, so be it. Be who you are and be proud of it.
Please love our planet. Love your family. Cherish life’s sweet moments.
Relationships are not that complicated. They take two people. Both listening, supporting and loving each other.
Do not look to the stars for guidance in life. Fiery balls of gas in the cosmos will not guide your footsteps or future.
When you open your eyes in the morning, start your day with positivity. You will never find joy if you do not look for it. If you decide your day is going to suck before it even starts, then it probably will. If you decide it is going to be an amazing day, it probably will.
We are all important lights in this very big universe. If someone else needs your light, please share it with them.
If you buy into the concept of astrology, then I would love to quote Bill Engvall to you: “Here’s your sign.”
