What if you could travel and observe the future or the past, but not as yourself? What if you could ride behind the eyes and mind of someone that was there? You'd have no control, but you'd see what they saw, know what they were thinking, and feel what they felt. Would you do it? I would, and that’s why I spent years working on this machine. Too much risk to go as myself or risk being in control, one change could destroy the very fabric of time itself.
The machine is finally done, I am ready for the first test. The first trip. Oh, I almost forgot, I am Dr. Christopher Allen by the way, and welcome to my lab. It’s not much, but this ordinary looking table here in the center, that’s my life’s work. It harnesses the power of a black hole: you see that simple looking box underneath. Yeah, whatever you do, don’t open that, it creates a magnetic field around the black hole to contain it.
Don’t be afraid when I lay down, if all goes well you will see the wires connect to my head. It will look painful I am sure, but I won't feel a thing. Your job is to watch the monitor, as long as everything is green you have nothing to do, if anything goes into the red you just hit the abort button. The big red one right in the middle. Think you can handle that? Good, then let's begin. Now the real question, where to go first?

Dr. Allen walks to the computer and types in the the year 4020. He then winks at his new assistant and says, “I wonder what I will see.” He lays down and the table comes to life. Dozens of wires start connecting to his body and two attached to what appear to be small cups cover his eyes.
The affects of having entered the quantum realm make him feel nauseous. The lights around him, like stars in the sky, start to blur and it feels as if his body is being ripped apart atom by atom. The pain is too much to bear, but there is no turning back now. Then he feels his mind pulling away from his body, wracked with pain. He sees now, his mind floating up, a ship in space, the largest ship he has ever seen; and it’s under attack. How did something this large ever get built and launched into space? It’s not possible, he thinks, they had to have built it in space. Yes, that’s it, built it in a low orbit, taking off from low orbit would take minimal energy to launch.
I must find someone to enter and learn what I can, he thinks. His mind heads into the ship and enters what appears to be a chapel with an armored woman praying. His mind settles into her and he loses control. He knew that would happen, that he was just along for the ride, but even that knowledge didn’t make it feel any better.

SGT Rogers of the 405th space force marines prepares for battle. The ECS Musk that launched from Earth in 2050 was almost to Alpha Centauri. Of course none of the original crew were still alive, but their children were and the clones all forced to join the Earth corporation. Well it is their ship after all. Three whole generations lived and died on this ship with no problems, and now with the fourth generation so close to the goal we've been attacked. They said they were aliens but I never really believed. I do now; the first hit opened a hole in the hull on the port side and they breached there, setting up a beach head and taking over deck after deck. The large grey man-like things, they move so fast they are hard to see anything but a blur. The call went out to the marines, all were suppose to meet here, but I guess I am the only one left. That’s okay, I will win, its time to activate.
She says, “Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among
women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.” As she finishes the prayer the altar opens and rises to a height of six feet with an opening large enough for a man in full armor to enter. She turns and backs in as it closes around her. She feels it connecting to her, thousand of tiny needles enter her body and activate the genetic sequences that where altered while she was being grown in the clone lab. She was made for one purpose: to protect. Her skin hardens, her muscle mass increases, her bones thicken and harden. She loses her fear, and all other emotions. A chime tones and the altar speakers say, “Defense program activated, clear ship of all hostiles.” She leaps from the altar thirty feet into the air and twenty feet forward. She picks up her laser rifle and rushes through the door down the ramp towards the main deck to fight the invaders.
She covers what seems like miles of paths and going from deck to deck until she reaches the battle. Blood of innocents covers the ground and walls as she sees the attackers. Eight foot tall grey skinned aliens with large oblong heads, their mouths open with rows of sharp teeth. They see her, but she is death walking. She draws her weapon and begins to fire.
Dr. Allen’s mind is jerked out of her head and back into the quantum realm. He feels his body reassemble around his mind. The pain is excruciating, but he endures. He wakes up on the table feeling the wires disconnect from his body. His mind is racing, in the future we will send out generations of people on ships to colonize other planets. And aliens; how could he forget aliens? He pushes past his assistant to get to his computer -- he must enter in everything he remembers while it is fresh in his mind. The formula they used for gene editing to enhance, I think I can recreate that. What a different world that would make...
