The Aquarius to My Campaigner

What my Myers-Briggs has to say about my zodiac sign.

Aquarius. ENFP.

Water Bearer. The Campaigner.

As a lover of psychology, I am all about the Myers-Briggs, the Enneagram test, among others and never really took much stock in horoscopes and zodiac signs. Although I don’t believe that my characters lie in the stars, the stars aren’t too far off. I’d say that for the most part, it is pretty spot on with my Myers-Briggs personality type.

An Aquarius is known to be the horoscope that is quirky, progressive, intelligent, idealistic, creative, and I can admit to fitting in those descriptors comfortably. The Campaigner is much the same; a free spirit, the life of the party. They also describe the Campaigner type as charming, independent, energetic and compassionate.

The Aquarius’ ruling planet is Uranus which explains their humanitarian nature, striving to initiate positive change and help improve the world and lives of people. Campaigners aim to make an emotional connection with people. The (N) in ENFP is the Intuitive nature of the Campaigner that allows for them to read in between the lines with energy and interest.

Even though the Aquarius is a water bearer, its element is air. It is why people tend to think that Aquarius is cold and distant, yet it is just the case of providing both mental and emotional stimulation that you get the full picture of what an Aquarius. Campaigners are seen to have this same madness. Campaigners can be the life of the party one moment without a care in the world and the quiet deep thinkers the next. They're known for being able to turn the switch on and off at a moment's notice which can be jarring for some.

And with great strengths come equal weaknesses. When it comes to the zodiac signs it can be a bit general. An Aquarius’ weakness are being overly emotional in situations, an inability to compromise, hot-tempered and seem apart or cold. The Campaigner is a bit more direct about its weaknesses. They are found to be independent to a fault, highly emotional, get stressed easily, overthink things, poor practical skills and find it difficult to focus. To me, the Campaigner’s weaknesses are a more precise explanation of the weaknesses found in an Aquarius.

Whichever I look at, I find myself in both. I was known throughout my childhood and teens to have literally cried on snow days, knowing that school was canceled. Snow days prevented me from both learning and socializing with my friends. My sister and mother have looked at me sideways once or twice with the look of, “What are you doing?”, when they have caught me taking up a conversation with an absolute stranger, both in person and on the phone. They can't fathom talking to someone out of nowhere as if they'd known them all my life rather than in just the last 10 minutes. My dad does it too. One could say that it's genetics. Or the fact that his birthday is the day right before mine, so we also share the same zodiac sign.

Growing up in a Christian home, there are something's that I align myself with completely, some I question and others I march to the beat of my drum. The Aquarius in me is not afraid to question why singleness is not preached more in the pulpits and marriage seems to be the thing to strive for. When I went from a Pentecostal church to a nondenominational one, I rejected the old thoughts of keeping one’s hair long and natural. I've dyed it every color under the sun before turning to my shaved head phase and becoming a frequent test subject for my barber’s design skills. There are times that you can find me quietly pursuing exhibits in museums or making commentary on a film by myself in a theater. And yes, I do believe that we all have a purpose in this world, to improve it, to leave people better than how they were before.

It doesn’t both me whether people ask what my zodiac sign is over what my personality type is. They both help give you an idea of the type of person presented before you. And no matter what zodiac signs or personality type you are, if we were to cross paths, don’t be afraid of me coming up to you and saying, “Hi! What’s your name?”
