Frost
Naamah ran. She saw the forest ahead and knew that, if she made it to the border, she would be safe. She heard the hounds behind her and the shout of a man. Her father. With tears streaming down her face, Naamah ran even faster, ignoring the bushes that scraped her skin as she fled past them. When the noise quieted to the fall of her own feet and her own sobbing, she slowed down. She then began to navigate the forest with care, searching for a little waterfall.

The Last Gateway
Kria lay sprawled on the ground where the last portal spit her up, indigo eyes screwed shut in agony. She let a scream escape her throat as her muscles reattached, her bones reconnected, and her skin knit back together. She sat up, gasping from the intense pain. Tingling replaced the screaming of her nerve endings, and she hugged herself tightly. The only comfort she would find here.

The Pelican
“Get up lad!” Joshua stirred from a restless slumber and lifted the corner of the little black notebook he’d bolstered with his crooked nose like an old cruck house. As he did, the relentless midday sun breached in slivers around a loose gunport. It glimmered, twisted and caroused its way through the ropes and cannon and bounded to the back of Joshua's one exposed eye.

BOOK 0: FIELDS OF FIRE Chapter xvi
The Stellar Council Confederacy of Planets called an emergency session while the Thuringi Armada still orbited Gali. King Lycasis Phillipi journeyed with a compliment of his Naradi Famede guards on the battleship Seetak to the space station headquarters of the Council. The Armada was in Crown Prince Stuart’s capable hands, and under Warrior Prince Darien’s protection directives. There was no official notice as to the subject of the meeting, but it was fair to reason it would concern the plight of the Thuringi.

BOOK 0: FIELDS OF FIRE Chapter XV
The presiding ruler of Gali welcomed the Thuringi with a robust and hearty cheer. It was believed that the Gali counted Thelans among their ancestry, and it certainly seemed so to Stuart. Ebullient and quick, Governor Windom Madig was eager to speak to the Thuringi, and flew out to the Armada to meet them.

BOOK 0: FIELDS OF FIRE Chapter xiv
One day, the Insa sent out an excited message to the king and in no time, word passed around the rest of the Armada. The bran section among the hydroponic crops matured into a bumper crop and harvest time was at hand. The Freen also announced the sea life proliferated to the point that the excess of protein-rich pantele was ready for netting and consumption. The Thuringi would be self-sufficient again, and the severe rationing and constant servings of friaks would ease. It was the best of news, news that made Lycasis say a deep, heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving on Remembrance Day.

The Dragon Master's Son 4 & 5
Chapter 4 It was almost exactly as John had imagined a cell. Three sides were plain stone wall and one side was a grill of steel. He had also imagined a small, grated window, but no window was there. John was alone in his cell, in the dark. The guard had taken the solitary torch away with him. Not that John needed it. An owl charm meant he could see perfectly well, even in this poor light.

The Dragon Master's Son 3
Chapter 3 John stood in the stone bowels of the castle. The room was large with an extremely high ceiling. Somewhere, way up in the murky rafters, he could make out birds flying. The lack of even a single window made it necessary for a fire, even now in the middle of summer, for light. The stone walls leached heat from the room. Even with the fire, which filled the enormous hearth, John found his teeth were chattering.
